Each day we find ourselves pulling our leash out of hand and dragging it on the ground. As a side note, I also dropped it in a river AND THEN accidentally dropped it, wet, in sand. Rather than ruining it, I was able to dry it out because the opening is separate from the body. By extending it and cleaning the leash in the river, I did my part. Upon returning home, I extended and dried the leash outside, and then simply raked the housing to remove all the mud and sand. A retractable would have been ruined if it had been enclosed.
That was one of the issues we faced - We used to find that our dog often bit at the link between the collar and the leash. As a result, we fixed the problem by attaching the leash to an open choke collar that we could just use as a chain. After that, we attached another clip to the side of the chain to attach it Although the chain adds weight to the leash, it continues to retract well.
This model does not work with it
I have a heavy-duty yellow ribbon that is flat from end to end (26 feet). Like you described, I used to have one with about 20ft of cord or rope and a flat ribbon at the end.

Below is the well-written document I submitted I wrote a review at the end of yesterday stating that what I received was old, moldy, and scratched. There was a rejection of my review. There is only one explanation I can think of for Amazon's lack of belief. The item had not yet been returned, so I opened it up and took photos even though I risked having to use my asthma inhaler. The smell is amazing! I wish I could capture it on camera! Taking into account the beautiful items featured on "Flexi's" listings, as well as the rave reviews, I think Amazon should be spending their time figuring out how this may have happened, rather than revoking.
Upon arrival of my 26 foot Flexi dog leash, I was very pleased with its quality. The piece is broken and will not work, in fact it is in bad condition. It appears that the leash tape is broken (not sure how you could break something like that), the recoil spring is faulty, and the handle is scratched and gouged. This retractable leash is designed specifically to meet the needs of dogs with larger sizes. The build quality for the price seems to be a fair trade off. I have a 90 pound dog that pulls a little bit and this leash holds up fine. It is easy to see the green florescent material in the dark since it is bright. It has been 20 years since we used this brand and this is the first time that the product is not Two of these were bought to replace some worn out after years of good service. We were shocked to discover that they collapsed after less than six months. There seems to be a design flaw with this model since the tape broke in the same place on both. Now I'm not sure what we shall use to go forward, but it will certainly not.

I prefer the yellow safety tape color of my new leash for additional protection when running at night, as the ribbon on my original leash was a bit thicker. This leash is much better than the Flexi Explore leash I bought a few months ago and gave a bad review for because it snapped just 1 month after buying it. The cost of this version is almost three times as much as the regular version. The leash should never break because it is like a life line.
