The leash features a lock but I am not sure why 2 of the questions mention it. A bit of fraying had occurred on my old retractable leash, so I was eager to order a replacement. We don't normally walk with our dog in the park unless he is chasing squirrels. He is 20 pounds, trained, and normally walks at our heels. Despite her age, she is incredibly reliable and it has been a pleasure to have her. As soon as she hears if she's on detail or free to run for a bit, she's aware. Holds up to the weight of two dogs pulling safely while being comfortable to hold and the lock is easy to use. Each time I walk the dogs, I reach for this leash every time. My children leave many different leashes somewhere, so I use this one every time I walk our dogs (if I can find it). We have seven different leashes to walk our three dogs, and this one is the one I use every time. Despite its high quality, it is heavy duty, and the "ribbon" never gets stuck, gliding out and back fluidly at all times. It comes with a comfortable handle and an easy-to-use locking mechanism that is easy to use, both to lock and unlock (I have one that sticks and is hard to lock and one I can unlock by simply bumping it). According to the manufacturer/seller, it is quite sturdy and can withstand the pulling of two dogs (although I'm not talking about a teacup). Our smallest dog (approximately 20 pounds) as well as both of our larger dogs (35 pounds and 80 pounds) can walk with me at the same time. The leash shipped quickly and was packaged meticulously so that it wouldn't be damaged in transportation. It is a great leash that I highly recommend.

The handle is rubbery, not plastic, so it's easy to grip, very pleasant to touch, it's very comfortable to use. There seems to be a consensus among the 1 and 2 star reviews that if it doesn't work out of the box, replace it until you get one that does. Amazon's replacement warranty allows you to get a new one within a few days.
