There is a little bungee-like give in the leads from the swivel to the dogs collar, so if a walker is walking with a dog stopped, the lead gently keeps the dog from A move. I have a five year old female Terrier Mix weighing 25 LBs and a two year old male Chiweenie weighing 16 LBs. Two retractable leashes and two standard leashes have both worked for me. I love this dual leather dog leash. I am able to walk my 12lb Chi and my 50lb Pit/Heeler mix side by side without any problems. The swivel on each leash makes it very difficult for them to get tangled. It is almost impossible to tangle the animals unless the smaller dog goes under the belly of the larger one, and that almost never happens. Moreover, I am even able to walk both my larger dogs together, which is quite an accomplishment considering my 75 lb Blk Lab/Rottie mix is still learning how to walk on its own. It helps to have another dog leashed with her so that she won't pull. It's great. I love it.
