Questions & Answers

Is this acceptable as a check-in item on an airline? do you have any requirements?

In the United States, these crates are not permitted to be used by any airline. Because of the top opening, it was not possible to carry on or check below. They don't like the design for the airlines, not because the crate is defective.

My cat weighs around 14 pounds and is a handful to handle- Is this Pet Mate two-door top-load carrier simple to load?

I have a 12 on my report card. From the top, a 7-pound cat snuck in with ease. I slid it into the back seat first, propped the top door open against the seat, and he walked right in. I had to wait in the exam room for a while, so I opened the top while sitting next to my chair, and he popped his head out, and I simply petted him while we waited. He's normally terrified, but I believe he felt better because the top was open. My veterinarian complimented it and inquired as to where I got it. This carrier is fantastic!

Hello, my 20-pound cat is looking for a new home. I'm not sure if this carrier is strong enough to transport him. ?

Yes, my cat is a Norwegian Forest breed that weighs 17 pounds. The plastic carrier that measures 24" is what I use.

Is it large enough for a large cat? My heaviest cat weighs 22 pounds and measures 23" in length (not including his tail) and 14" in height. I haven't been able to locate one that will fit him! Help! ?

It's about 19 1/2" long and 14 1/2" high inside the carrier, so it can fit a fairly large cat inside; my biggest cat is 17 pounds, and while the weight displacement in the carrier varies a lot depending on the cat's position inside, it should be enough room for short trips to the vet.

VERY DANGEROUS! Yesterday was my first time using this carrier
3/5

We had an appointment for our cat, so he was placed in the carrier and carried to the car. We noticed his nose was bleeding and had skin hanging down from it when we got to the car. We noticed that when he stuck his nose through one of the oval-shaped holes, he had scraped off the entire first layer of skin from his nose. On the side of the kennel, there are shaped air holes. I'm disappointed and surprised that a cat carrier would do such a thing to an animal. When I examined the holes more closely, I discovered that they were extremely sharp and dangerous. Unfortunately, we can no longer use this carrier because it puts our cats in a dangerous position, and I hope this does not happen to any other animals.

My pet was harmed due to shoddy workmanship
3/5

For the first year or so that I had it, it appeared to function properly. My cat is tall and long, so she required a larger carrier than most, which she seemed to enjoy and even sleep in at times. However, she became upset when I closed the front door on her to prevent her from bolting when the vet entered the room (her vet visits her at home), and she ended up with a cut on her nose as a result. Although it appeared to me that the inside of a crate should be a secure environment, upon closer inspection, I discovered that the peep and vent holes on the inside of the carrier are ragged and sharp. This is shabby and dangerous workmanship in my opinion, and the carrier will be picked up for trash tomorrow evening.

EXACTLY WHAT A LARGER CAT REQUIRES
4/5

I just received this today, and it is much better suited to my large cat. Because we are a military family, we move frequently, and this will be ideal for our upcoming summer move. I was having trouble finding something I liked that was also affordable and large enough but not excessively so. I was hesitant to order this because I was worried it would be too small or come with the wrong bolts, as many reviews suggested, but it turned out to be perfect. Make sure to order it from Amazon as the seller, and I believe this will solve the bolt problem that some people were experiencing. Size. . I don't know his exact weight, but he's around 15 pounds, and with some toys, he has plenty of room to stand up and turn around. He's never had a crate before, but he seems to enjoy it; I've left it out for him to come and go as he pleases so that when it's time to lock him up, it won't be as traumatic (he has a hard time traveling!). ) I like that the top opens up because I know that when people are nervous (like at the vet), it's easier to use. I'm glad he likes it because he's 7 years old and has his own set of habits. I'll post some photos in the hopes of assisting others with size questions, as I found photo reviews to be the most useful.

Purchased new, received used, and covered in feces
3/5

The "new" kennel was clearly used, with dried feces smeared all over the inside; as a veterinary technician, I've seen a lot of filthy carriers in my time. This one had clearly been used, pooped in, and returned to the owner without being cleaned. Furthermore, the top handle was missing. I will most certainly be back. If you buy used, be aware that the returned carriers may not have been thoroughly cleaned or inspected.

In order to avoid dangerous vent holes, inspect the inside of the vent holes before assembling or using them
3/5

The problem with sharp vent holes that was reported in 2017 and 2018 has yet to be resolved. My crate arrived today, January 16, 2020, and I inspected it before putting it together, based on the reports of dangerous vent holes. One vent hole had a jagged, sharp edge that could have cut my cat's nose as well. I was able to sand it down to a smooth finish, but Petmate has let me down. The crate was simple to put together, I like the secure door latches, and my cat enjoys it. I would have given this crate 5 stars if it weren't for the poor quality control issue with the sharp jagged vent hole. Before putting their pet in this crate, anyone buying it should inspect the inside vent holes.

BE CAREFUL if your cat is attempting to escape - He is going to do it! We tried it out for the first time yesterday, and unfortunately, our cat got away as we walked to the car
3/5

The carrier, on the other hand, is in a semi-conscious state. The plastic bends and torques just enough that the cat's weight, combined with the cat's struggle to get out, makes it SUPER easy for the cat to unlatch the door and jump out. (Which is exactly what happened. ) The latch no longer catches when the plastic bends slightly, and the door simply pops open. We were able to re-enter him, but the SAME THING HAPPENED AGAIN, and he bolted. We are saddened and concerned. It's all due to this extremely dangerous carrier. Please exercise caution when using this; If at all possible, I would prefer that what happened to us not happen to anyone else.

On the floor, there are houses
5/5

I chose the Petmate two-door top-load pet kennel because I recently adopted two adorable kittens who deserve nothing but the best. I felt as if I had won the lottery when the two kennels arrived. There are so many to choose from, and I wanted one that was safe, secure, and appealing on all levels, and the Petmates ticked all of those boxes. I placed the five-month-old kittens on the floor, side by side, with the front doors open, to get them used to the kennels. It took them only a few minutes to inspect them and decide to enter; I had also ordered MidWest Quiet Time Pet Beds (fleece 22" x 13") for them, which fit perfectly. The comparison of the two Because the side kennels reminded me of travel trailers (which they are, in the end), we named the area where they are located "Trailer Park. " The kittens are frequently napping in their "trailer homes," and I am confident that when I need to take them to the vet, they will not be as frightened as if it were brand new. I strongly advise you to think about this product, as well as the bed.
