My dread of having to "assemble" the steps was immediate when I opened the box that contained the steps. I thought it would be difficult to put together because it was so many pieces. Finally, I got ready for the task of constructing these steps after a few hours of waiting. After I removed the pieces from the box, however, I realized that it was not a bunch of pieces to assemble. It is top of the line and very affordable. I love the size of this puppy for my Shih Tzu. As soon as she had become accustomed to them, she could easily use the steps. It's idea and design are excellent however, as it has been for several months now, the most crucial part of how it is structured hasn't been done properly. Since my small dog has fallen through the steps a few times, I've spent more time trying to secure the slates in place to ensure my dogs' safety so I have taken down the whole thing and discovered Amazon will not refund this item. I love them. I selected these stairs because they are easy to climb for my dog, but they are tall enough so that they are perfect for my 14" It's wonderful that she has a space under the stairs to curl up and a place for storage so it doesn't feel like a wastage of space. As well as not being an eyesore, I can let her jump into bed whenever she wants by the way it doesn't hurt her joints due to aging.
