In its widest point, the wooden portion of the gate measures approximately 67 inches. As well as the legs, a few inches are taken up by the feet. It's been used for years to secure an archway between two rooms and I like how it's opened all the way. There are approximately 69 arches in the archway. The width of this platform is 5 inches.
Despite its name, this pet gate can't be opened. If you want to let your pet out, you can side it across the floor or lift it up.
These legs need to be attached to the bottom of the gate if you are talking about them. There are two of these that I have and they are really nice. They are easy to adjust unlike others that I have seen where you had to unscrew them to adjust This model is very appealing to me, not only for its appearance but also for its height. I love it! As I did not wish to have a permanent gate attached, I bought this. It hasn't been able to be pushed by the dogs so far because the stoppers have prevented them from doing so. There is a 52-inch gap between my doorway and the wall.
The gate is nice, but I can also imagine its use being limited if the opening has unique trim along the baseboard and/or is not sized to align with the spacing of the grate. The first thing I would like to talk about is It came in a sturdy box, with hardware and plastic feet in another cardboard insert. There are 4 feet pieces (2 pairs) and 12 screws (plus instructions and warranty card), so all you have to deal with is that. There is only one thing you need to assemble - a Philips head screwdriver (#2) worked for me. When screwing in the foot screws, you will need to press the outside screws in and hold them, but otherwise the pieces will line up well. Do not over-screw (and a screw gun is overkill) as you are screwing into plastic. Do not leave it overnight. Then you will be able to fit the feet to the gate. Do this by unlatching the gate latches (4 of them) and widening the gate to allow for proper and safe attachment. Once you place the two screws on either side, you are ready to go. There is a limitation, those latches do not interact fully if there is a vertical line on the latch that crosses the width of the plastic. In order for the grate to align and allow you to click it, there is just enough wiggle room if spacing is off and it is close. As you saw, there is really no way for me to know if it will work for you in advance and I can see why some people say it's unusable due to this limitation. In the end, it worked for me to keep my four little beasts away from the front door and the carpeted dining room (where our puppy thinks she is outside and will poop in if we are not To gain access to the space, we simply pivot it out of the way and let the door open.
