If he jumps a fence, he'll be in for a rude awakening when he lands. Depending on the dog's size and stubbornness, it may take a few jumps over the fence in various locations before he realizes he'll get some owie paws if he keeps doing it. It will, however, work in my opinion. It irritates my two large dogs. Even if he sees a neighbor cat running around outside, the one dog won't go near it; he used to go crazy at the window.
This item was purchased for cats, but it is ineffective! I'm sick to my stomach! I'm going to ask for a refund. This is made of extremely low-cost materials.
They're tough enough that if someone fell into them, it'd hurt. Because the mats are uncomfortable for cats, they act as a deterrent. That is also true for the majority of other people.
It's what I use for my cats. I'm not sure what the problem is. Walking on them is not pleasant. The spikes aren't pointing in any direction. The tips of the fingers have been snipped off.

Two of my cats did exactly what you'd expect them to do: they stayed away from the mats. He tore off a hind toenail while attempting to jump/climb around on the mats. These mats will no longer be used in my home due to pain, blood, and $400 in veterinarian bills. UPDATE: I simply placed one of the mats on top of the refrigerator to prevent the cat from using it as a "stair step" to the top of my upper kitchen cabinets, where I keep my vintage cookie jars. It was only a matter of time before he wreaked havoc on the place, but that's no longer a concern! I was also able to bring my Shefflera plant into the house from the garage, where it had been since the cat arrived. He would not leave it alone because those are toxic to cats. Now that I've put two mats together and a large plant on top, he just sits and stares, as if wondering who thought it was a good idea to bring these things into our lives. He quickly noticed Lilla and was on top of the tank whenever he had the opportunity. I tried a cat deterrent auto spray can, which quickly stopped working, and a carpet runner I had on hand, which I turned upside down so that the little "stay-away" sign was visible. grab-and-go The spikes were pointing upwards. That DISAPPOINTED him, but not on those days when he was feeling particularly tenacious and sassy. He'd just "grin and bear it" and be right there, taunting both me and Lilla! They also completely blocked all light and air from the top, and they were butt- ugly. br>br> I found these mats on Amazon and chose this package over a roll because the squares appeared to be easier to handle (and they are), and they were a good value for the money. I'd also have extras to use in other areas where I'd like to keep animals at bay. br>br>To cover the top of the aquarium, I used three full mats plus three others cut down to a smaller size (easy to do), for a total of six mats, all of which were connected by the small hook and holes on all four sides of each mat (two on each side). These mats completely solved my problem! All salamander watching is now done from the floor, thanks to a quick trip up and down. Not only that, but the mats are made to order. The mats are sized to fit the top of the screen, and the black color goes well with the black trimmed aquarium and screen cover, so they actually look good. They're not particularly attractive, to begin with. They're incredibly light, so there's no risk of them being too heavy for the screen, and I can see down into the tank through them, which I couldn't do with the "clear" carpet runner that wasn't actually clear. They work so well that we can leave the cat alone in the house, which we've never done before. br>br>I docked one star because the small connectors are extremely fragile and easily break off. Several of the squares arrived with at least one torn off, and I misplaced a couple more while dismantling them. (They come stacked. ) Of course, the squares can be connected with zip ties or twist ties; however, if the attached connectors don't rip, it's more convenient to use them.

These are very nice in size, and there are a lot of them. We have stray cats in the neighborhood who like to perch underneath the bird feeders. These mats have been placed beneath the feeders and have proven to deter cats from making themselves at home there. The birds are unconcerned about the mats and continue to visit the feeder. We are very happy with these large mats and have placed another order for some to be placed in the back yard under the feeders. The anchors assist in keeping the mats in place, and the mats must be removed in order to mow the grass. It is, however, a quick and simple process. For us, this was an excellent purchase!.
