If you use filtered water like I do, I'd recommend changing it every two months if you only have one animal.

I needed a new filter for my cat fountain, so I ordered these. I have two cats who drink from the fountain, so I fill it with filtered water from the refrigerator and empty it every other day or so, wipe it down, and refill it. I noticed right away when I bought these filters that one filter would only last about two weeks. br>br>The third, fourth, and fifth filters I used all molded. And by molded, I mean in less than a week. When I opened the top, the water was cloudy, slimy, and the filters had mold on them! I will not purchase this product again; instead, I will return to the manufacturer's brand; I replace the entire fountain every two days, and the last one I used molded after only four days.
The filters are very effective - Before I had the sponge filter, I had to disassemble the water pump on a regular basis to remove all of the hair and debris that had accumulated inside. That problem is almost completely solved with the sponge filter. br>br>My only wish is that there was a better way to connect the sponge filter to the pump - The sponge floats in the fountain when it's full, making it difficult to secure it to the pump. br>br>As an ad-hoc solution, I used a velcro strap (for wrapping cables) to secure it. It appears to work as an ad hoc solution (a rubber band could also be used). br>br>This isn't necessarily the fault of the replacement filter company, because the original Veken fountain I bought didn't even come with a sponge filter. However, if a strap or attachment mechanism could be included as an option, that would be ideal.
That is why I only gave it four stars instead of five.
Then they were sold out, so I had to settle for these. I was happily surprised when I opened the box. Each filter includes a black sponge, as well as a small cleaning brush for the holes and flower. I had to soak and wash that nasty black sponge, as well as spend time cleaning it, when using real Catit filters. From now on, I'm only going to buy these. Definitely worth the money, and far superior to genuine Catit filters!.
It's possible that the sponges aren't the right shape. The filters appear to be in good shape (roughly equivalent to the originals - Expect less than a full "compartment" of activated charcoal. Although the sponge filters for the pump were not the right shape for our water machine, they could be stuffed in to make them work.
There is no noise at all unless the water level drops too low, in which case you will hear it dripping back into the container because it has a longer distance to drop them when the container is nearly full. For 18 months, it was run on extremely hard city water. I recently switched to bottled water, which makes cleaning a lot easier. It is extremely popular among cats. This should not be your pet's only source of drinking water if you live in an area where power outages are common.
This is an excellent filter bundle, and I am pleased with it. I would recommend it to others. The only criticism I have is that the smaller black filters were all crammed into the box, causing them to be slightly misshapen. It's a simple fix, though, because all you have to do is wet it and reshape it before sliding it into the fountain's designated slot. In the future, I'll be purchasing again.
I've ordered other filters in the past, but they didn't include the extras that this one does, and I paid more for them. My purchase was a great success!.
