When I took my Eclectus to the avian vet, she warned me against using sand or concrete perches. 1. The bottoms of the birds' feet become raw. 2 Because they like to clean their beaks after eating, they will rub their beaks so much on the perch that it thins out and cracks or breaks. She advised me to use only natural wood and to get rid of mine, which I did, despite the fact that it was a complete waste of money. Purchase these items at your own risk.
I was completely let down. I was excited to add this swing to my birds' cage. I couldn't because the chain was rusted to the point of being useless when it arrived. If my bird ate rust, it would be poisonous.
I ordered the small size at first, but it was far too big for my parrotlet. Not only was it longer, but it also had a much larger diameter. The extra small is the perfect size for me. I believe this will last for a long time; the photo shows the first swing I purchased, which was a small size. The extra small is used in the second image.
My diamond doves jumped at the chance to use it. Swings aren't usually their thing, but for some reason they seem to enjoy this one (: The chain was a little too long, but that was easily fixed by moving the hooks further down the chain. I also took out the little plastic rings because my doves don't really "play" that way, so they weren't necessary.
It's of excellent quality, and I'm very happy with it. He cries over every toy he's ever had, but this swing appeared to be parot-proof. In addition, he keeps his nails trimmed while swinging. This is a swing that I would strongly recommend.
He sat down on this perch for about an hour and began to fall asleep. This one looks like it will be a hit with me.
