Use a CLEAN cup and dip it elbow-deep in the mixture. To collect your sample, go at least a length deep into the water. Then:
1. Remove the strip after dipping it for two seconds.
2. Hold the strip level for 15 seconds (pads facing up);
3. Colors must match the chart.
Free chlorine, total alkalinity, pH, and cyanuric acid are all factors to consider.
Within 6 months of opening, use the strips. To ensure that the strips are accurate, get a new batch at the beginning of each season.

The color difference between the values is so slight that these are effectively useless. Also, despite adding more than twice the amount of stabilizer required for my pool, these test strips continue to show CYA at the first color value, which is impossible if they are accurate. At this point, the only thing I trust is chlorine, so I'm off to get some from a local pool store and see how badly these junk strips have messed up my water.
The PH and Free Chlorine are both close to being correct. The alkalinity is a little off, but it's close to what the pool store says it should be. Despite the fact that the pool store lists 55 ppm, the cyanuric acid never registers (due to this, I almost added too much). br>br>Yes, my PH is within normal limits; was 8. It began with a value of 0 and has since dropped to 7. Chlorine is found in one of the first elements of the periodic table. Alkalinity is 100 and ranges from 3 to 3. The value of cyanuric is never greater than zero.
These are more appealing to me than the more costly 5-way. I only test for chlorine, and these are very effective.
This will allow me to obtain Chlorine without having to work too hard.
