Questions & Answers

What does "1/2 cord" mean in this context? I've seen 8' x 4' x 4' written in every definition of a cord I've seen. So, at 8' x 4' x 14", this appears to be 1/4 cord. ?

I'll try to make this as simple as possible: this rack can only hold 1/2 cord of wood if each log is 2 feet long. Period. In the United States, a cord is a legally defined unit of measurement that equals 128 cubic feet, or a wood pile of 4 foot long logs stacked 8 feet wide and 4 feet high. The dimensions of this rack are 8 feet long by 4 feet high. If your logs are the size to fit into a standard fireplace or wood stove, approximately 16" give or take, this rack holds about 1/3 of a true cord of wood. In other words, if you're using this rack to store logs that have already been cut to fit your fireplace or wood stove, as most people do, it won't hold 1/2 cord. It's a great rack, but there should be no misunderstanding about how much wood it holds. This rack can't possibly hold 1/2 cord of fireplace-safe gas. sized logs, and I'm guessing that those who claim it does haven't received a true 1/2 cord from their supplier.

We intend to buy this rack after discovering termites and other wood-boring insects. Do you have any suggestions for storing items in a suburban home with limited space?

If termites or other wood-boring insects have been discovered in your firewood, keep it as far away from your home as possible. Before bringing logs into your house to burn, I'd consult a pest control company for advice on how to get rid of the bugs. Maybe there's an organic, risk-free way to do it. Termites can be avoided by keeping firewood a few inches above the ground.

What kind of tools do you need to put it together?

There is no need for any other equipment.

What are the dimensions of a cord of wood?

8 ft x 4 ft x 4 ft or 16 ft x 4 ft x 2 ft is the size of a full cord.

Purchase it if you are able to

If you're reading this, you're probably debating whether you really need to spend the big bucks on this or if one of the much less expensive wood racks will suffice. I've been in a similar situation to you. Purchase this if you have the funds. br>br>I've had a wood stove for over two decades, and I've had several of those cheap Chinese racks that you can get for $50 or less at a big box store or on Amazon. The low-cost ones will keep your wood in place and may appear to be adequate at first, but the quality is lacking. They'll rust quickly, are flimsy and wobbly, and I've had them fail and spill logs all over the place on more than one occasion. By the way, if anyone was unlucky enough to be near them at the time, they would almost certainly end up in the hospital or worse. A full rack of firewood is likely to weigh close to 1,000 lbs or more, which many people are unaware of. As a result, a swaying, unstable wood rack is extremely hazardous. br>br>I decided to upgrade after one of those cheap racks failed and a wood avalanche landed within 2 feet of my truck. This thing is going to last a long time; it's probably 5 times as strong as the cheap rack it's replacing. br>br>By purchasing this, you are supporting a small family business in the United States. Someone attempting to produce a high-quality product in the face of a plethora of disposable, low-cost alternatives. junk with a high price tag br>br>So, if you can afford it, go ahead and buy it.

Made in the United States of America and built to last
5/5

Let me begin by emphasizing how simple it was to make this purchase. Easily accessible and delivered within two days to our home. Try obtaining one from a foreign country in that time frame. br>I chose the Woodhaven American Original after conducting a thorough search to ensure that I was purchasing the best possible product for our needs. Its long-lasting construction and sturdiness have impressed me greatly. We bought the 8-pack and gave it five stars. br> version on the feet I've included photos to show you how the pieces connect in the middle for support and to answer any questions you might have about how much this will hold (I've seen a lot of them). This will hold a Face Cord, which is wood that has been split into 16, 20, or 24-inch lengths. 8 ft long by 4 ft tall, in lengths of 8 ft. I get a lot of questions about whether it will hold a half cord or a cord, and this is the best way to figure it out. It doesn't get any easier than this when it comes to assembly. The company is nice enough to send you two wrench-type tools to assist you with the task, but if you have tools, put those nice little wrenches in a drawer somewhere and pull out your 7/16-inch wrench. in the form of a ratchet or a socket I put this together in under 10 minutes by myself, but I needed the extra torque that a ratchet or socket provides to properly tighten the bolts for strength. I'm not an expert on how they finished the metal, but it appears to be some kind of powder coat material, and I believe it's rust resistant or even rust proof at this point. Yes, you'll pay a little more for this than for some of those Asian-made products, but you'll get a very sturdy, well-built firewood rack that, in my opinion (time will tell), will last for a very long time. We'll disassemble ours in the spring and store it away because our pool area will require the space. This is probably my final and most serious observation. This is a product of the United States, and that should be the end of it. When I opened the package, there was a thank-you postcard and a nice can koozie as a gift, which was a nice touch from the company. Spend a little extra money on yourself and get this product; if my review has helped you in any way, please let me know by verifying.

What you pay for is exactly what you get
5/5

Because I'm new to the bulk firewood scene, this is my first time using a log rack. Maybe I didn't look hard enough, but when I was looking for a rack, I found either (relatively) cheap models for around $65 or more expensive units like this Woodhaven. After reading numerous reviews of both, I decided to go with the more expensive option based on the principle that "you get what you pay for. " I got this rack yesterday, put it together in about fifteen minutes (or less), and filled it with about a third of a cord of firewood in about an hour. All of the pieces fit together perfectly, making assembly a breeze. Two of the final bolts required the use of a hammer to get them through their holes, but I believe this is typical when lining up a metal frame of this type. The unit is well-designed, with a simple but sturdy design and high-quality hardware. The tops of the side supports do not flex outward under full load, which appears to be a common problem with the less expensive racks on Amazon (which appear to be made of tubular material, similar to a cheap swing set). I'm stacking a variety of woods, ranging in age from 15 to 50 years old. I measured 18" and was able to fit about 1/3 cord on top. I could have fit one more row on top, but I wanted to leave enough room for the cover to secure to the uprights. Only if your logs are each 24" long (which is too big for most fireplaces and wood stoves) will this rack hold 1/2 of a true cord. The cover is of good quality, and the less expensive models appear to have very thin and nearly useless covers. Those who complain about the cover's size don't seem to realize it's by design. Only the top two or three rows of logs are supposed to be protected by the cover. This is enough coverage to keep the top dry for immediate burning while allowing air to circulate around the lower rows to season and control moisture. I'm giving it four stars because I've only had the rack for one day. I'll return to update after seeing how the unit handles a rainy winter in the Pacific Northwest. UPDATED TO FIVE STARS. br>br> Great rack; I'd buy it again and recommend it to others.
