A fire pit with a diameter of 40 has been made for me. I believe that it is sufficient to fit your 42 inch screen, as it measures 25 inches and there is ample room to spare. There is a fireplace that measures 2 inches.
It works well and I have had no problems with chips or damage from hard edges. Even though there is less flex than glass tables, I use it for a stone fireplace.
As in the picture, it should fit a 43 inch fire pit, however it will not reach the ground as shown. My fire pit is 44 inches, and I am using this kit Looks a little odd, but it actually works.

The cover definitely kept the water out, but the ties that held it around the base dried out after a year, which resulted in an out of control algae growth as you can see in the pictures.
