The recommended method for pond bottom sealing is to mix the bentonite with soil and then compact it with a pad foot roller. 2 to 6 pounds per square foot of pond bottom is needed, depending on the soil type. Unless it'll be a small pond, you might want to look for it in 2,000 pound bulk sacks.

My leaking pond is now sealed thanks to Natural Waterscapes Granular Sodium Bentonite Clay for Pond Sealing! The leaking area was near the concrete drain. The leak was so bad that it created a large cavity along the outside of the drainpipe that was four feet deep and 30 feet long. I dug out a two-foot cube around the drain to start the big cavity. I tamped the bentonite clay into the dirt I had dug up around the concrete drain. I then used dirt from the farm to fill in the rest of the cavity. After several rainstorms, the pond refilled and has been at its normal level for the past two weeks. The water level hasn't dropped noticeably. My pond has a diameter of about 150 feet and is 10 feet deep at its deepest point. I would recommend ordering extra buckets because the one I had was barely enough for my project. Six large wheelbarrows of dirt from the leaking area were used to mix in the clay. I doubt one bucket of bentonite clay would have sufficed if I needed to remove any more dirt.
The pond had a CMP overflow, and a leak had developed under the pipe, so I removed it and replaced it with dirt mixed with this bentonite, and the pond level rose a foot overnight. No leaks. To protect the dam, we had devised a backup overflow system. I'm going to place another order for a dam project I'm working on.
I was pleased that it repaired the leak in our pond, and that it came in a bucket rather than a bag, as this makes storage much easier. It worked for a few years the last time I used it until I noticed the same spot this spring. On our property, we have a number of springs, one of which is right next to the pond. You can have it professionally repaired, but this is a relatively simple process that only requires a little patience.
As ordered and described, including blue bucket, and exactly as shown in the photo. Drilled holes in a separate bucket, filled it with 5 inches of dirt and 1 inch of Granular Sodium Bentonite Clay, mixed them together, and filled it with water; not a drop leaked out for a week, even when I moved the bucket around (flexing sides). It works.
I was constructing a pond out of natural materials. Even in a completely flat area, using at least what was called for, mixing it in, and compacting it, it did not work for me, even though I followed all of the instructions. I'm sure it works in some places, but it didn't work at all for me. I'd buy more from this company because they were so wonderful and sweet. Furthermore, THIS PRODUCT MAY BE USEFUL FOR SOME PEOPLE.
First and foremost, yes, it will stop a leak. I don't think I'll be able to do that in the long run. I don't believe so. This was used to fix a couple of leaks in a small stream. It worked until the next rainstorm, which washed the Bentonite out of the way. I bought the 5 gallon bucket to give it a try, but it didn't turn out as well as others had claimed. I wouldn't recommend it for leaks in creek beds (sides of creek), at least not for leaks in creek beds.
My duck pond now holds water thanks to your product, and the ducklings are having a great time and are grateful.
