If you possess an existing shaft, you can either buy a bushing that fits the shaft or use the existing one. I suggest you return the item and have it replaced with the proper part
My understanding is that most Woodfords used similar cores and plugs. I have no idea for sure, but I would give it a try. When the core is really old, you'll have a lot of trouble getting it It can be interesting to see rust build up in a pipe.

The spigot was fixed on the first try with this easy-to-use app. I did not need all the rest of the Only the plunger didn't work, but after testing it, it fit onto the stem as it should have.
In 1996, we had a Woodford hydrant that needed repair. We were provided with the correct parts to complete the task. In order to remove the handle and hydrant head, we had to heat them, but with the kit it was quickly replaced.
It does what it is advertised to do. It was a good idea to have a firm set of pipe wrenches with very long handle extensions to disassemble it.
It took over 32 years for me to have a problem with this hydrant. Now I just have to hope I can make it to It was a bit difficult to replace the parts due to rust buildup It looks great up in the pipe. The parts match perfectly, and it no longer leaks.
We found the kit to be very reasonable and were able to fix our hydrant thanks to this. As soon as the hydrant was installed, the leak was repaired. There was a U-tube that we watched A video on how to install the kit can be found on YouTube. I found it easier to install thanks to it. When another hydrant starts leaking, we will buy from this company again.
So I thought I would just replace everything since I had to replace a leaking plunger. The replacement of everything was exact, and the hydrant works great now!.
Heat tape was used to encase it (also from Amazon because my local stores were out of heat tape! parts as instructed by a video on Utube. Didn't get a plumbing bill if we could have even found a plumber to help with everyone's burst pipes.
