It has been a very cold winter here in Baltimore, so I purchased this foam faucet cover to protect my outdoor faucets. Each cover was wrapped in plastic when delivered in perfect condition. It was quite easy to install. Located around the top of the faucet is a black loop/lasso that is woven into the foam cover. You should place the foam cover flush against your house's wall. The photo shows what I mean. The front of the foam cover has a little button that needs to be pushed in and the string pulled until snug. With the foam cover in place, the chair is snug and comfortable.
Here's the truth As well, my wife and I have lived in our house (East coast) for a few years without protecting our outside faucets, but we haven't dealt with a freeze. It may not be possible to tell whether magic rocks work because, like tigers that fear magic rocks, we may never truly know if they do. It is a cheap, yet effective investment we have heard enough horror stories about to know that there can be no negative consequences. In this case, the tie mechanism ensures that it stays in place. The following minor complaint has been received Once fastened around the handle, the tie was a little difficult to loosen, but it held tight once it was in place.
I found these to be exactly what I was looking for. My only complaint is that I didn't get the standard grey but I received the red version. It's not exactly what I wanted to have one of those red boxes sticking out of my tan house, but I'm buying it for its function and not for how it looks. In that case I would definitely buy again, but I would caution you if the color of your choice is important, you may not get it.
I bought this a month before the Texas Freeze of February 2021 (you know, the one where we were just seconds away from a complete grid collapse the first Sunday night? which was certainly helpful. In our case, the amount of ice that formed was confined to the washing machine drain line. Since we have PEX lines, they wouldn't have busted anyway, but nonetheless the outside faucets that this product covered never broke.
