A friend and I bought a new but really old house, and the water shut off is in a weird place, so I was thinking what was I going to do in the winter. As a result of some research, I found these and I am very pleased so far. Winter is a big deal around here since I live in Wisconsin. We had a week of 60 degree temperatures over Christmas) but a few weeks ago we had a week where the temperature reached - 10 with a - 0 wind chill. With 15 wind chill, the temperature is 15 degrees. So far, no damage to the pipes has occurred. will always be a miserable month, so only time will tell if these socks will hold up in the long run but for now they are making a world of difference. Due to the old age of my house, the outdoor water spout is just beneath one of the wood siding panels. It is only a few inches above the wood siding. I put both socks on the outdoor faucet since I only have one, and I had no trouble putting them on.
