The pot can hold a little under a half cup if the stem is filled too
In fact, yes. The only time I use them outside is in the summer. You don't have to worry about them breaking from heat, but they are glass, so be careful about dropping or bumping them against solid objects.

Only one of the three birds I received actually worked, and they are much smaller than they appear. It was a breeze to fill the first one and it has been emptied into the soil. Two of the other two have been tough to fill due to an issue with the stem where the bottom of the bird meets the bottom of the stem. There is a large hole in the pipe that does not seem to be wide enough and that does not seem to work.
As soon as you figure out how to fill them, you'll love them. There was a funnel included, but my first few attempts (including trying the funnel also) were unsuccessful. Try holding it at an angle and turn the faucet on the smallest stream possible. Keep the hole exposed and do not let the water cover it. must be enough space for water to go in while air can escape at the same time, otherwise, the bubbles will keep bursting and the water will not be able to fill the tub. Other than that, it was just what I wanted and super cute.
My first purchase of a watering globe was shaped like a ball. I then tried the ball-shaped ones and I liked them. It is hard to clean if dirt accumulates in the tube because the tubes are very nice looking. Trying to dislodge it can cause the globe to melt. Dirt always adheres to the inside of the plastic no matter how you try to clean it.
Having said that, this product is very creative and very unique, and I was very impressed with it. One of the things that sold me on this product was the fact that it was made of clear glass in the shape of a bird. Unlike the majority of watering bulbs that are made of blown colorful glass, this was sleek, modern, and nicely integrated. The three packs I purchased come in a package of three. I was unlucky in that one of my self watering birds had already broken when I received it. I have now reduced my list to three in the past few weeks. If I had just returned them and gotten the money back, you would have asked why I didn't. COVID seems to be working well As I took the lost 19 taking rampage, I decided not to take the three I had left. Still, I continue to use the three I had left.
I really like them. The shape is cute, and the fact that they're clear just helps them blend in particularly if you use them in larger plants. This was really easy to fill. If I fill at the sink on low and use the funnel it creates air bubbles, so I prefer to just fill the sink on low. It looks like a small piece of fabric at the bottom is fastened with a rubber band, which prevents dirt from getting into the jar and makes it easier for people to fill and empty it without spilling My plants did not last very long the first time I put them in because I did not water them. I then watered them after they were in the ground and they lasted for I'm sure your climate plays a big part in your decision. For my plants I will use them as they prefer to be consistently damp. They will also be useful while I am on vacation because they like to have constant moisture. It would be better to have a few large plants in the pot for a week, but a few small ones should be fine! The glass seems to be sturdy, yet it is very thin. They would be handled with care by me.
They are a cute idea, but they are not functional at all. As a matter of fact, I've never used a self watering system before, but it seems like they don't last very long. As far as I'm concerned, I didn't find them difficult to fill. I simply used a trickle of water from the faucet (a hose would be difficult). You will find that the water drains out of the plant within a day when you insert them. Watering is not really slow because it's a constant flow. The cuteness of these does not outweigh their lack of functionality. The little one is fragile, but adorable.
Only a few minutes were required, and it wasn't difficult. To place the tube in the dirt, you need to poke a hole in the soil first and place your finger over the tube before placing in dirt, then lower it into that hole already created in the soil. By turning mine at an angle, I was able to keep it from draining all the water, and so far that has been working well. It took under 10 minutes to complete the entire process.
My plants look so lush and beautiful when I see the birds sparkling in the sunlight as they water them. To fill an average sized plant pot, you will need a couple. There is a risk of dirt getting stuck in the tube end and blocking the water flow, which is very frustrating. There was one plant where the bird continued to drain water, causing the water to overflow. Every week I refill the birds with water, which isn't difficult, and the plants look perfect. In some cases, the birds are hard to fill because they are fragile.
