They should be close enough that the roots aren't harmed. Depending on the plant, I place mine about 4 inches away from the root. Push them down three inches (they don't need to go all the way in).
Please measure the diameter of the opening of your water bottles; if it is less than 3cm, it will work.
I've never used fertilizer before, but these are fantastic! While on a week-long cruise, I kept my outdoor plants watered and healthy; thank you for allowing me to keep my plants alive!!
That means it's made of a new clay that can make it more durable while still releasing water like terracotta.

Plant watering is required! I adore this product and appreciate its utility; I've tried other methods of watering while traveling and this is by far the best!br>I've been hesitant to continue bothering one of my apartment building neighbors. I hired someone to water my plants, but she was completely unreliable and untrustworthy. Watering pads were a bit pricey, and they were a pain to clean up after. br>These spikes, which I use two per plant for large plants, are very easy to use and came in a protective package that I saved for storage. To avoid the possibility of breakage, I switched from wine bottles to plastic Pellegrino bottles! I would advise new owners of this product to carefully remove bottles from the spike in order to avoid spilling any remaining water.
These products arrived in a nice package with clear instructions. They carry out their duties to the best of their abilities. A typical wine bottle neck, on the other hand, does not appear to fit well in the opening. Because of the octagonal shape of the opening, it does not fit snugly. It barely goes in an inch before coming to a halt, tilting the bottle to one side. It will stay up if you balance it properly, but you'll need to move it around a little before you feel comfortable letting go. I didn't have enough depth to distribute the weight primarily down rather than to the side, but I did have other decorative bottles with thinner necks that I could use instead. It's also possible to use beer bottles. Aside from the fact that you might need to look for bottles with thinner necks than wine bottles, the product works well and exactly as it should.
After reading reviews, I decided on this product and have been very pleased with it. I use juice or cola bottles that are made of plastic. I followed the instructions and angled the spike's tip toward the plant's root; it worked perfectly. During the hot months, I still need to water every day, but I'm confident that the water is reaching the plant's roots rather than running off. I refill the water in the bottles with a water jug instead of dragging the hose around or letting the plants sit in a tub of water for 30 minutes to an hour each day. I haven't tried them inside yet, but I'm sure they'll be fantastic.
br>All you have to do is add water bottles to make them work. This purchase has made me extremely happy.
This is fantastic! The frequency with which you'll need to refill your wine bottle will be determined by the size of the bottle you're using. Once a week, I must refill the smaller bottle.
Because I live in an area where I have to water my deck plants on a regular basis, I ordered these. I like these because they're small enough to fit in my potted plants, and you can fill them with water from any bottle size and reuse them. use. I'm going to order more.
Depending on how hot it gets, 3 to 5 days with a beer or 16 oz water bottle should suffice. They last slightly longer than a week in a wine bottle or a 1 liter bottle. You should return to live plants after a week or ten days with larger bottles. Everything was in perfect condition when it arrived. The tools are better suited for indoor plants, and they make a nice thank you gift. Because these are large, the pot should be at least 10 inches in diameter. If they're any smaller, the roots will be harmed. After giving the plant a good soak, I inserted them. I intend to keep them in place for the duration of the season. When I travel, these provide me with peace of mind.
These were purchased for use in the garden during summer weekends away. I've used them in conjunction with some 2L plastic bottles that had previously held coke or lemonade, and they've worked great both times. After three days away, I used two sets of these in my garden squares and everything was still alive. Given the extreme heat in the west this summer, the system must be working well. I did dig a nice hole for them to sit in, rather than attempting to push them down too far on their own for fear of breaking them.
