Questions & Answers

Can anyone tell me approximately what the operating cost of a 16 hour day is per month?

In response to one of the answers, the math was oddly worded in an attempt In order to figure out how much it costs to run a device using 100 W, we can use the following formula. I'm exasperated. One watt hour) costs usually $1.00 and up. On September 9th, In the US, electricity costs about 20 cents per kilowatt-hour. Based on an assumption of a $0 electricity cost It costs $12/kWh. I'm exasperated. This is the Watt scale. It is the amount of energy consumed when using 1 x Watt for 1 x hour. I'm exasperated. For example, you have 100 Wh if you use 100 W per hour. I'm exasperated. There are 2,048 kilos in a ton This is watts- A KWh (kilowatt hour) is a unit of measurement similar to a kilocalorie The size of a gram is a thousand times that of a gram. I'm exasperated. A 100 watt hour is equal to 100 watt hours divided by 1000 watt hours. A kWH consists of one kilowatt hour. I'm exasperated. A unit of energy (energy consumed while the device is operating) is equal to 12 cents per kilowatt-hour (cost of electricity per kilowatt-hour) is The price is $12 for 100 W for an hour's use. Using this approach, to apply it to another user's math, we can say This unit uses 54 watts per bulb, so it consumes 216 watts when 4 bulbs are in use. The average day is 16 hours, per day. As a result, the average month is 312 hours. A total of 107,136 Wh is a result of 496 hours * 216 Wh. This is 107 kWh when converted to kWh. This is equivalent to 136kWh. I'm exasperated. The rate for 107 kWh is Twelve dollars per kWh equals twelve dollars. For a whole month, it would take 84 lumens to run the 4 bulb variant continuously.

As it relates to growing plants, what's the difference between these 6400k T5 bulbs and other bulbs with a different temperature?

The must lights only encourage stem growth in which the growth is poor and too tall. A later warm day (red light) can trick plants into believing that fall has arrived, causing them to flower and budding. The 6400k provides balanced plant growth for most growing situations.

Exists a sense of security among owners of this unit regarding leaving it on while they are not home (e.g. Is it possible to talk on the phone ?

As much as I feel safe leaving the product on at home, I will leave it on but not at work. I understand that design engineers are responsible for the design of switch mode power supply circuits. I understand that switches can fail, but they are not generally considered hazardous, however. A certificate from ETL validates that the fixture is metal and certified. An ETL rating is comparable to a UL or CSA rating. You should not experience any problems as long as you use it safely.

I am trying to decide which of these two is best There are four bulbs and a four-watt bulb How do you replace a light bulb? Are they capable of emitting heat along with Please let me know if you have ?

This is because the 4 lights provide twice the amount of light, which helps you to grow plants in deeper trays. Compared to my 2 light lamp, these lamps seem to have a better effect on seedling growth, and last year I grew more plants under them. did not find them to be very heat-producing, but they do provide a bit of warmth, which is nice. There is a L- in my book Grow area is shaped like an L with 2 pieces of shelving. There are two four-by-fours on my wall The lamp stands on a shorter side compared to the foot lamps on several shelves.

Having read the reviews would have been a good idea
3/5

There are times that it's necessary to weed out negative reviews that have nothing to do with the product, while other times, the reviews are right Had I read the negative reviews carefully, I would have kept an eye on them. people have expressed that the ballasts will fail early in their life. Mine failed halfway through my second season, almost a year after I purchased it. So far, four of my eight tubes are in working order. Agrobrite/Hydrofarms does not provide any customer service at all, so don't even bother contacting them. The response I received was nonexistent. In the end, Amazon made things right.

The light is wonderful
5/5

There are just a few things to keep in mind. It would have been better if I waited a few months before reviewing an item. It was a Christmas present to myself to give myself a step up in the garden by buying this light (four ft eight tubes) in January. All three components of this setup are connected to a Christmas light timer including a light, heat mat, and fan. The following is what I have grown I've been cooking this fare for months -- artichokes, basil, onions, leeks, shallots, celeriac, cotton, peppers, and the list goes on -- and the light has been excellent While I had a bit of a learning curve of my own, I'll say I'm getting better at The first thing I did was not turn on all the lights. Once I ran eight lights, I quickly burned through the seedlings as if they had been out in the hot July sun for hours. It's fine to run all eight lights once the second or third set of true leaves has developed, but once the outer four have developed keep the light Besides, the light from the ballast will reflect enough light on the rest of the project.

In addition, this light will draw water from the soil sooner than Even though I started with plugs, I recommend using a seed starting soil, such as Fox Farms. To keep up with the heat of the light, I watered the plugs twice every day. There was a recommendation to keep the plants at a height of 2 The space between the light and the lamp is 3 inches Don't do it. On some plants, he scorched the leaves horribly. The width of the space is two feet. There is nothing wrong with my plants, and they are not spindly in any way. There is some heat given off even from a fluorescent, so the distance and fan compensate for the majority of your heat issues. This fan encourages stronger roots which make it a win-win situation for all. The biggest plus is that it seems to be low energy, we didn't see a huge spike in our electricity bill. I will keep using this product for the foreseeable future because of the great light, great price, and the ease of operating.

Hydrofarm used to provide top notch service, but now they offer no customer service
3/5

A few changes. A FAILURE BALLAST IS READY TO BE HEARD AS HALF THE BULBIES ARE HALF AS BRIGHT NOW. Also, HYDROFARM has failed to respond multiple times after numerous attempts at contact. I did not even ask you how you were doing. Up until now, I have spent all of my money on Hydrofarm. Changes have taken place at the company. There are a lot of products available now that look nice but are poor quality. There is no comparison between my "lopsided" generic T5 and According to my Lux meter, this is also the case. This is a review from the past I have been impressed so far with how well it works and feels Compared to my other, generic T5 bulbs that weren't Hydrofarm, the 6412K is a little cooler than the 6500K, but I find it to be more natural looking. A second issue with the generic T5 is that the ballast is attached on the side. This results in the light tilting when Despite being hung straight, this "Agrolite" does not have the ballast in the correct place. In the case of this Agrobrite from Hydrofarm, one of the bulbs was burned out upon arrival, which is fine, but I have contacted Hydrofarm multiple times hoping they can resolve the problem, but so far, they have not responded to my I don't know of any. Please note EDIT I purchased the item less than a month ago and not only did one bulb arrive bad, but also the ball stroke seems to be failing on one side. A total of 2 bulbs are only half as bright as they were before. This T5 looks excellent compared to my other 50$ T5. But due to its poor quality, it is a failure. A HYDROFARM representative did not respond to my email inquiry. I have never. HYDROFARM WON'T BE MY SOURCE OF PRODUCTS IN THE FUTURE.

The fire was quickly extinguished
3/5

I don't think the bulbs are worth the trouble! There was a fire in the unit. My intention is to use this as a light for a herb garden indoors. One side of the bridge was burned out within one month. With two switches, each of the four bulbs can be controlled. When I first noticed the problem, I thought it may be a bulb, so I swapped the good bulbs for the bad ones. Not at all. As a result, the light itself was burnt In the end, I didn't bother to contact the manufacturer or Knowing I wouldn't want another one, I knew I wouldn't want it. In lieu of the cheaper LED light, I chose an expensive one. It would have made more sense for me to start in that direction.

These lights are dim on one side, as a number of other reviewers have noted
3/5

The ballasts are malfunctioning or the wiring appears to be disconnected. On the side of the fixture nearest the switch the light does not work, while on the side farthest from the switch the light is very dim. (See I will need to take it apart in order to figure out why this is happening, but in the meantime it is A very disappointing experience. Hydrofarm produces different grow lights - I own one This is the product that I bought from another The light light (an Agrobrite is not good enough) makes me much happier. A RECENT UPDATE There was a problem with the wiring. As seen above, there are images. In the socket bar nearest the switch, a yellow wire should have been connected to the yellow wire coming from the ballast. But it wasn't. I now have it and it We are a hydroforme It is possible to reduce the needless returns by making sure that these wires are properly connected.
