Questions & Answers

What is the rotation rate?

The RotaPotĀ® composter rotates, which is a huge improvement over a regular composter. The weight of the compost hurt my back. I would never again turn heavy compost.

Is it necessary to use anything so that it does not smell?

Usually I smell it just as soon as the door is opened. The smell of compost is not pleasant. While I do not believe it is a bad scent, I am not sure you can avoid it. No matter how I keep mine, I keep them away from the house. I can only smell it when I open the door, it is only then that I can really smell it.

The smell remains after it's been opened?

There would be a smell to it.

Can the lid opening frame be installed outside or inside of the lid opening? The directions say outside but the hole alignment is not correct. ?

Located inside the main barrel, this is located on the inside.

That twist-on cover is so annoying
3/5

A lot of its aspects are good, and it seems like a good design. It was a screw that needed to be tightened It is a mess with the bin cap down. It can be extremely difficult to align properly so that a close can be made. In order to ensure proper closure, continuous pressure at the two thread points with the handle should be applied while turning. In the heat, it may become impossible if it warps in any way. My sense is that there is a double standard here It is probably more cost-effective and easier to manufacture a clamp mechanism (although it is more difficult). Due to gravity on Earth, assembly is not the easiest and the illustrations in the manual are not very impressive. I cut my finger trying to turn the lid to Closed recently when I literally cut my finger on the fixed plastic ring that surrounds the cap. This is a plastic cut but feels like a really bad paper If I line the edge with duct tape, I might be able to get rid of the problem. Although my Ikea purchases often threaten to kill me, none of them have ever actually caused me to bleed to death. All of these problems are not annoying enough to send the CD back to the manufacturer, but I doubt I would purchase There are two types of doubles If you were to buy an identical unit, then a chambered model with a different closure mechanism would have been perfect for my purposes. The June update is as follows My rating is being reduced from three to one stars. Despite its many advantages, we can't do anything with it. As a result of the ridiculous lid design, we have given up composting without a better model until we get one. of charge to anyone who would like to come to San Jose, California, and pick it up (rotten detritus and bugs.

The composter is well built, although it was challenging to decide between all of the different design options
5/5

So far, we're very satisfied with the product. I received this as a gift for my husband for his birthday. He was able to put it together easily. To remove the lid, you need to remove both sides at the same time Performing tasks by hand The problem seems to be that he's screwing it back on), but that's not necessarily a bad thing. In addition, the drum is restricted from rotating on its own by a pin. Rotating the drum is also a two-step process I would describe it as a simple hand job that does require a little effort, but I wouldn't call it Composting is sped up when the black color absorbs sunlight and heats the interior of the container. There are many articles on composting for beginners on the web if you experience challenges with smell or quality of your compost (as also noted by some other reviewers). There were a few useful tips I found online (like adding yard waste to neutralize the smell of table scraps, and not including any grease, meat, or bones that can spoil The design of the composter does not cause these issues.

It was hard to follow the However, the instructions are terrible with only small pictures, and I really like the finished compost bin
4/5

There were problems with one of the bolts and the instructions did not point out that the "port hole" opening should go UNDER the two side pieces when they are assembled. When I read comments on another site about this issue, I became extremely frustrated. This is a very nice product with a couple of shortcomings, but some improvements could definitely be made.

You're the best
5/5

Assembling it is not too difficult. It appears to be made from a high-quality material. Although it's full, it's easy to move around thanks to the wheels. As I'm on my first batch of cooking due to the cool weather here, I'm taking longer than usual. When I opened the lid, however, steam rolled out, which gave me a clue that it was working. If you have kitchen scraps, make sure to use 25% of those and 75% yard waste, and then make sure to wet it all down Periodically turn the lid after you have screwed on the lid. It's a piece of cake. With the tumbler it's definitely breaking down quicker than a three-sided enclosed kitchen composter. I used to compost in an open enclosure before I purchased this. A complaint I would have if I had to provide one would be the ease in which the barrel could be turned. This is a good workout on a full bike, so you might want to find a bicycle with a crank or something you'll find easier to maneuver if you're short.

Please do not purchase it. It seems that the seller is not able to support its products. They are made In addition to the excessive wrapping, I also had to take the parts apart for 30 minutes. I had to put it together for another 90 minutes or so after that. The rubber mallet, WD40, and drill I needed were needed to enlarge the I had nearly reached the end when I finally thought I was there. Suddenly, I realized that I had two parts 'G' but none part 'F' (these are my interpretations. larger ones. When I contacted the seller to get the right part, they told me they did not have a replacement, and that Amazon would not allow them to send us replacement parts, so I had to send them back the whole package for Reciprocal saws are the only tools that can be used to dismantle this thing.

Make sure you follow the instructions to the letter
5/5

You only need to follow the instructions carefully and don't think you can skip ahead if something the instructions say to do in the final stage you think you can do in an earlier step you appear to need nuts at the ends of the bolts that hold the cover to the barrel, but these do not need to be used. It is true that the holes are designed for a nut to be inserted, but this is not stated in the instructions nor will there be enough nuts to do it. Those instructions do not have a lot of words. Following the correct sequence is all that is required.

I think that a kit would be a better option
5/5

I didn't realize that I would need to raise worms to make compost out of the materials I was putting in the In the future, when I go to market, I will look at what I plan to buy and the option of using this in the compost. After that, I will need to buy I win the pissin' contest at work every time I mention my 100 red worms in the composter - you can tell by how many of them I have - I have the best worms! The number of pets is the determining factor. There is one co-worker Trying to argue that all of those worms counted as one organism, the worker argued that a life is a life I responded, a life is a life.

It works well and is sturdy
4/5

While there are many tumbling composters out there, I feel this is among the most reliable. Instructions aren't great, but assembling it can be done with a little bit of effort. In addition, a reviewer pointed out that the screw-on lid was a bit difficult to turn It's a little hard to do on top of that, but it's manageable. Other than that, it's well balanced, sturdy, and does what it's supposed to do. Normally by putting meat scraps, fish guts, and anything else that raccoons, foxes, and skunks would previously rip out of the main compost pile, it was safe from the animals. The system would work well in cities, but I believe you would need two of them to make the system work, since you would have to stop adding new compostables after a time You would start another batch in the second unit while doing this. It is key to fostering quick composting, and I have also added worms to the pile so I do not need to worry about unwanted bugs digging into it.
