The patio side awnings I purchased for my deck are two of them. If you don't build another platform for them to rest on, I cannot see any way they can be mounted higher. Those at the bottom are attached to the deck's floor, and those at the back of my house are mounted to the screen. If it is heavy rain, you should not leave them open.
