The feeder and the waterer are excellent. I was surprised at how fast the delivery arrived and how well made the packaging was. It's a big hit with the girls. The birds I have are about 2 to 2 1/2 inches in length A three-week-old baby. There are 2 feeders and 1 waterer and they are working fine. In order to prevent their bedding chips from getting inside as much, I raised them a few inches. The price was well worth it.
I have some Orpington chicks (four weeks in the picture) and this works perfectly. It may be a good option for as many as 10 young chicks plus 2 or 3 chickens, I imagine. In my experience, I don't like to keep their feed out in a container for more than a few days (this keeps bugs and pests at bay), so the smaller feeder keeps the food fresh and more plentiful I'm glad to hear it didn't tip over yet. My chicken is extremely enthusiastic and still hasn't tipped it. HAHAHA! We'll see how it goes! Unless you see a new update, you'll know you've got a good deal. Also, the auto water they have is pretty rad. In order to maintain good health and longevity of chickens, it is crucial that their food and water are kept clean. I am new to chicken keeping but have always kept birds. A little loop at the top would help me hang it from the ground, which was one thing I thought they should add. For that, I'll have to construct a harness. Worth letting a star go, but not worth knocking one off.
Our large one just like it for the older chickens also lasts for over 5 years and is still in excellent condition, so we bought this one for the chicks as well. It is because of this reason that we chose this brand and this type of product. Alternatively, you can place it on some wooden blocks as shown in the picture. It helps keep the shavings out of the water when the baby chicks play in the shavings when the one on ours is set on the wood blocks. Here is a photo of the waterer, as well as the feeding trough, which is not shown in this photo. It is also recommended to buy from this seller. I am really impressed with how fast they are shipping.
The Chicken Waterer is a decent product. Kind of hard to clean all parts where two pieces connect. Gets really dirty really quick if placed on the ground, because chicks/chickens will poop in it often and kick dirt and bedding into it, getting it very dirty very fast. I would recommend hanging it if you are able to. In the aftermath of using a nipple waterer, I vowed that I would not use one again if I could. The conclusion is The product has its place in a chick brooder, but that is all. It is recommended that you either purchase a nipple waterer or you can purchase the nipples and install them in a bucket or another.
the lid was somewhat malformed when it arrived. On closer examination, you see that it is not completely round, but more oval, and the plastic has been stressed at several points. Considering that it was in a bag inside of a damaged box, I'm sure it wasn't a shipping error. However, no one enjoys receiving damaged goods, even though it still serves its purpose. There is no other reason why it isn't a five-star product.
This is not the case The capacity of this container is 5 liters. It is stated in the product description that this holds one. Despite the fact that I received two, they are far smaller than 5 liters. Each one holds about a half It is not possible to return them because the chicks I ordered are due for delivery tomorrow, and I cannot leave them with nothing whatsoever. I am so disappointed. It is expected that you get what you pay for when you order something. It's a bit much to ask for, I guess.
My only issue with this is that it's a little complicated. I noticed the third time I filled it (only with clean tap water) that the film material inside the plastic left a strange, clear feeling on my fingers. It's too dark to see it, but I feel it's dry, sticky, and has an odd odor. So I know it's not just the water in my tap. I tested my metal waterer and plastic chick feeder, and they didn't have this problem. There is not any algae or bacterial growth in it, and it has a very synthetic smell and feel to it. After using soap and water several times and scrubbing it several times, I'm not sure what it is. I have always been using warm soapy water to clean it on a weekly basis. While vinegar helped to stop the contamination from spreading to the outside plastic, now it is occurring on the outside as well. The chickens still eat it, but I'm starting to worry if it's a chemical our chickens could be poisoned by.
This keeps shavings from getting in it and keeps it off the ground. You can elevate it on some bricks or similar products to keep it raised.
