This is due to the rodent issue, which is why 4 stars for this hotel. If the feeder is set on blocks so that it is raised above the ground, its perfect for hens. I did not have any problems getting my hens to eat the feed. It would keep the feed dry if it rained, that would be nice. It would also reduce spilled feed on the ground, but there would be no rodent protection. I would give this item a five star if there was a way to cover the holes at night to prevent pests from getting to the feed. I have had a few feeders since last year, but this is by far the easiest The feeder might be covered during the night if I can think of a way. I thought it would be smaller, but it ended up being bigger than I imagined.

We ship within 24 hours. The cost of feeding it is reasonable compared to the quantity It is lightweight. There is a bag capacity of 50 pounds. There are concerns I just received this yesterday and I like the design, but I wonder how well it will stand up to cold weather after owning a hobby farm for more than 20 years. I did not expect the material to be so thin - I thought it would be thick like a thermal cooler. It may be thinner but is sturdy and roughly 3/16" thick. You can get plastic feeder troughs that hang on the fence for horses or goats or the gallon buckets that are made of plastic that can be used for both food and water for the animals. The material is also not recommended for frequent exposure to the sun - I'm curious how it will hold up. The product is labelled as UV protected, but so do a lot of other things like the UV protected vinyl fence posts that last for two years before the sun breaks them down. We will have to see how things turn out in the future. Although the price seems high, I wanted to see if it would last so that I could make a more permanent purchase. This machine will be worth the cost if it lasts 3 years or more.

Despite their popularity with my chickens, they leave plenty of feed on the ground even when we put them at shoulder height. I like this bird feeder because it keeps rain from coming in and can be filled easily.

We've used several different feeders to no avail. I love this! I'm sure I'll use it a lot! The hens all get their turns and some holes have two eating at the same time, so there is no squabbling, and best of all, they do not need to scatter it around the coop or There were two of them. It's wonderful to have both a layer pellet feeder and a scratch grain feeder in the run - both of them they love. Through this system, I think that some of our "defective" chickens have been able to learn a lot. There is no way my husband could get on top of it, and it is easy to fill and clean. It is sturdy and has not been turned over. In view of our intention to increase our flock in the next spring, two more should be added. My opinion of this product cannot be high enough.
