The Geotextile is a fabric that is not woven. Water can filter through it, so it's a good thing. Garden beds, erosion control, pond liner protection, and a variety of other uses are all possible with this product. Thank you very much!
Yes, it would be suitable for that purpose. Water can pass through, but because the openings are so small, course soil (coarse sand and larger particles) will be kept out.

In a small French drain, I used this material as a soil separator. I simply cut the 5' width in half because it was too wide for my needs. 5' and wrapped it around the piping with zip ties to secure it. As a result, the soil was protected on two levels. Installed this just two days before a major storm hit the area, and water was flowing from the drain the next morning, so it appears to be working. This seller is someone I would buy from again.
Because my space is only 5x10, I purchased the smallest size. I'm 73 years old and built my own water feature, using this product to fill in the gaps between the dirt and the rocks I placed around the perimeter. I didn't think it would tear when I put the rocks on it because it was easy to handle and cut to size. However, I was surprised that it did not tear even when thrown against 50 pound rocks with sharp edges. We've had a lot of heavy rain, and the fabric has held up well to the dirt. It hasn't shrunk or developed any holes, so it's still in good shape.
I only needed a small amount of medium weight non-woven fabric (approximately 45 square feet). I couldn't find the fabric I needed locally, except in extremely large and expensive quantities, for a woven geotextile for a flooring project. This is the correct underlayment fabric, and the 10 ft. by 5 ft. I got a little more than I needed because of my size. I like being able to buy only what I need and not have to deal with any leftovers. The quality is excellent, and the thickness is ideal for my purposes (gluing down over sheet vinyl and then saturating with cement mortar to create a solid base for a tile floor without having to remove the sheet vinyl).
At 9300 feet, the durability of the geotextile underlayment will be put to the test. CO's Rocky Mountains are at a high altitude. Despite the drought, a French drain was installed behind our cabin, and the perforated plastic drain pipe was wrapped in geotextile underlayment to prevent sand, grit, and debris from clogging the pipe, which was then covered with small rocks. We'll have to wait and see what happens over the winter as the snow melts and evaporates.
To keep weeds at bay, use as a pond liner. The effectiveness of the system will be determined over time.
Fabric of high quality.
Good product.
