Questions & Answers

Is it possible to pierce hard clay soil with a 1/2" corded drill?

I use a 3/4" corded industrial drill for mine, which is quite powerful. I've had no problems using it in clean fill, rocky fill, or clay. When I came across rocks or buried bricks, I used a spud bar to remove them. If it fits your drill and you go slowly, the bit should be fine for cutting clay. The bit wanted to walk at first, so I cut a 7 1/4 inch hole in a 2 x10 x20 inch piece of wood and laid it on the ground as a guide to get started, then removed it once the bit was in a few inches and got great results.

Hello, what is the size of the resulting whole?

At the very least, you'll get a 7-inch hole. However, as another user stated, if you angle it, you can get about 10 inches. I went nearly horizontal, and it worked admirably as a tiller as well. This was for a 20 x 4 foot new garden area. For larger areas, you'll still need a real tiller; this auger isn't capable of tilling a large yard.

Is this auger compatible with an electric drill?

Any 1/2 drill chuck will work with it.

DEWALT 20V MAX XR Hammer Drill Kit, Brushless, 3-Pack DEWALT 20V MAX XR Hammer Drill Kit, Brushless, 3-Pack DEWALT 20V (DCD996P2) How fast do you want to go?

I won't be able to drill more than one hole because of my lack of stamina. 2 holes. The auger is about 9 pounds in weight. If you have that drill, ream the hole out with a 3x24 auger or a 4x28 auger.

it was a success   To use with this, I purchased a large corded drill, and the combination worked perfectly

Whether it's rocks, roots, or clay, there's something for everyone
5/5

It makes no difference. My yard is mostly clay, with a thin layer of topsoil on top, and a layer of 1-inch mulch in the flower beds. Prior owner used 2" "decorative" rocks to avoid annual mulching. Because of this, digging in the beds with a pick-axe is nearly impossible. axe. After a brief trial of the 3"x12" version, I purchased this auger, which performs just as well. To avoid breaking myself or the drill, I'm using a Dewalt 20v hammer drill with a side handle and the clutch set to 11. I have to reverse the drill every now and then to back away from a root clump or larger rock, but otherwise it's smooth sailing. It works well for planting and also serves as a mixer for mixing soil and peat/mulch for my potting mix. It's pricey, but it saves me at least 30 minutes of shoveling time. With each hole, you dig deeper.

It works great, but you'll need a high-speed internet connection

a high-powered Drill with torque! The auger bit is well built and works well, even in clay, as previous reviews have stated, IF (and only IF) you have a high-quality auger. a high-torque drill with a powerful motor I began drilling holes for 1-inch diameter pipes. planters with a gallon capacity and a heavy-duty lid Milwaukee hammer drill (hammer off) for heavy-duty applications. It was a high-risk exercise. It had a lot of power, but it had a lot of torque, and it almost caught fire. So I shelled out the cash and purchased a high-end camera. Home Depot sells a torque Rigid drill ($140) that can be used to mix concrete. It comes with both a spade and a support handle. The auger's power was unleashed by this drill, allowing dozens of holes to be bored, even in clay. My only criticisms are that it is somewhat (pun intended) pricey, and that it does not bore through grass because the blade tip simply spins on top of it. It digs right in if you break the soil up a bit, say with a pick ax. I've considered cutting a couple teeth into the bottom of the blade to see if that improves performance in grass and vegetation.

After only a month, I had to strip
3/5

First and foremost, let me state unequivocally that this is a game-changer for my clay soil. Plants are doing great in fluffy soil that is easy to plant in. br>I bought a brand new drill to go with it, so I was confident it could handle it. br>However, after a few holes, the auger bit frequently falls out of the drill due to the hex shaft stripping, and the drill has only been in use for a month or two, and certainly not a lot of time. br>I like what the Power Planter does, but I'm bummed that it might become completely useless before the season's end.

When drilling in a bucket, do not use an auger
5/5

Doh. Really, this is a fantastic site. br>br>THIS IS THE BEST THING. If you don't already have one, this is a good place to start. THAT IS EXTREMELY DUMB. BUY ONE RIGHT AWAY! br>br> I went from taking 2 hours per hole (due to the extremely rocky volcanic soil) to only 3 minutes; I'm not joking when I say that! I now have a tree in my yard. This tool has resulted in a well-lined driveway. For a 65-year-old grandmother, that's pretty good!.

It's quite effective
5/5

The auger appears to be well-made, and my Dewalt DCD996 has no trouble drilling through my Maryland soil; however, your mileage may vary if you have particularly rocky soil or a weaker drill. br>br>My main concern is that the drill's hexagonal 'chuck' will eventually snap off, rendering it useless. This has happened to me with cheaper big-box store augers, but this one appears to be a lot beefier, so hopefully it won't be an issue.

Solid! In about 15 minutes, I was able to drill 8 holes, each about 2 feet deep (in semi-rocky soil)
5/5

It will take 20 minutes. It was necessary to clean out the holes with a post hole digger. I used my DeWalt flex volt right angle drill on high speed with this auger, which saved me a lot of time and was well worth the money.

It can withstand the elements, including concrete
5/5

This device is fantastic; I wasn't sure if my lithium-ion battery could handle it. It could be powered by a battery DeWalt drill, but it works fine. I'm using DeWalt's top-of-the-line brushless drill, which comes with an extra handle attachment that's required for the amount of torque the auger produces, and it works flawlessly. Digging is a lot better. I've even smashed it against a concrete corner and it's still going strong. withstands the test of time without succumbing to the effects of time.
