I looked at the cutting edge and noticed that it could be replaced, so I went to Amazon and quickly found the correct part, opting for the better one with the Tungsten Carbide cutting edge. What a huge distinction. When I told him what I had done, he came over to assist me in finishing the holes (my wife and I had given up due to the difficulty). What would have taken a few minutes was completed in less than 30 seconds, thanks to the digger's ability to cut through any obstruction. Even when it was brand new, he claimed, it didn't dig like that. This is truly remarkable. Use the extra money to purchase a Tungsten Carbide cutter.
As a result, the blades are indestructible. After welding, the blades last longer than they did before.
They're quite costly, and they quickly lose their luster. I purchased these so that we can quickly swap out blades while working and sharpen them all at the end of the day. I'd probably take it to a welder or other fabrication shop and have it made out of a harder steel or titanium.
It's not a perfect match for my 8-inch Earthquake, but it'll do for now. To attach this one, I had to drill a new hole in my auger. I managed to make it work.
It appeared to be successful. The mount holes match the old NILS 6" that came with a Tanaka earth auger that I found on CL. The earth auger bits for these are simply no longer available. It fit perfectly after a little grinding. We'll see how it holds up in the long run.
The original blade had become rounded and was useless. It's digging like crazy now that it's new.
Cut well.
