I'm not sure what it's made of, but I know it works well. I've used it a few times now, and the coating is still intact. This is a fantastic tool.

Saver. If you dread digging a plant hole with a shovel, this device is a lifesaver. I've reached the age where digging holes with a shovel causes me back pain and makes me reach for the Aleve. It not only digs a 5 in. round hole, but it also digs a hole that is perfectly round. You can easily increase the diameter of any plant size by moving it in a circle, which is very cool and only takes a few seconds. Rocks and hard soil aren't a problem, but you should consider wearing safety glasses because the drill spins out debris at a high rate, depending on how fast you run it. I really like it. If something goes wrong, I'll reorder it.
With my 3/8" corded drill, this worked fine, though it did get quite hot. I wished I'd gotten my son's 1/2" drill when he was younger. It was a good fit for the drill, but it was a pain to remove. Drilling down, stopping, pulling out, and spinning the drill to clean off packed dirt was the best technique I found; the cleaned off drill cut way better than a packed drill.
I have arthritis in a few fingers, but I found that if I keep a firm grip on the drill, this auger bit is simple enough to use. I've tried it on a variety of soil types and turf types. It's been a huge success so far. Digging time and effort are significantly reduced.
It sank its teeth into the majority of the roots with ease.
This has quickly become one of my most useful gardening tools. Makes planting in difficult soil a breeze. To get the most out of it, you'll need a fairly powerful electric drill. I'd give it six stars if I could!.
This works well except for the fact that the design causes the dirt to fly straight out, resulting in a big mess. Slowing down isn't much of a help. It works quickly and effectively in all other respects.
I wish I had known these were available years ago when I needed to dig a hole or loosen dirt. It would have saved me a great deal of time and effort.
Works well for small jobs, but be cautious if it becomes stuck. If you do not use both hands, the bit will become stuck and break your wrist. That's something I like.
