Keep in mind that you may need to replace the rope at some point, so I glue the beginning and secure it with a heavy duty staple until it dries. Then I tightly wrap the post and, at the end, I use a hammer to tap in a couple of heavy-duty staples while keeping an eye on them. Because I have a large cat, the top half of the post is mostly used by him.

In humid areas, I expect it to mold. Any natural jute would elicit a similar reaction. Mold can be avoided by using a plastic rope.
The knotted strength is approximately 600 pounds, based on the tensile strength of approximately 1200 pounds. So, yes, you can use it to hang yourself, but it will be painful.

Jute rope for sale at a low cost. Excessive kerosene odor on rope requires multiple washes/heat to remove, as others have mentioned. Large fiber chips in rope require a lot of effort to break down and remove. There's a lot of fuzz here, and it's in desperate need of flaming. That being said, the rope has a nice twist to it, and it's ready to go. silky smooth and golden brown in color after oiling. After removing the large fiber chips, I wouldn't trust it for suspensions, even at 8mm diameter, but it's a decent rope overall. Given the amount of water, propane, and detergent required, the cost savings might not be worth it.
You can find videos on YouTube that show you how to wrap a post without staples, nails, or other tools, and they work great. Remember that one 50-foot roll of this jute rope is enough to make ONE normal-height scratching post (like the one shown in the product photos). You'll need more than one roll of jute rope if you want to make multiple posts or if your post is taller than average.
This jute was purchased to repair the scratching posts on my cat's tower. I quickly ran out of jute after wrapping the shortest lower post; I recommend ordering a roll more than you think you'll need if wrapping a scratching post. I resorted to purchasing additional jute from my local hardware store and found it to be subpar in many ways. The Vivifying Jute rope has a lovely warm hue to it. The rope is also much softer and more pliable, making it much easier to work with (as opposed to the store-bought rope, which was a struggle). I don't like the finished texture of store-bought jute and much prefer the Vivifying's smooth finish texture. After all is said and done, my cat couldn't care less about the type of jute I used and is content to climb/scratch her way through life.
It was a little thicker than I had anticipated, but it worked perfectly for the project I was working on (see photos). I have a love/hate relationship with the fact that I used the entire roll for my project, like wow, I used the entire roll, but I'm glad I wasn't short, because it's excellent quality rope and very sturdy. I'd make another purchase.
Shibari, this is a good rope for a beginner. Of all the ropes I tried, Jute is my favorite, but the cotton rope I got from SGT isn't bad either. Nothing compares to the feel of Jute, and the traditional rope tightening sound when tying adds a nice touch. Mine took some time to condition because it was a little rough when it arrived, but the price can't be beat.
On two of my cats' favorite scratching posts, much of the jute had been scratched away. This jute rope caught my eye because it said it could be used to scratch scratching posts. It turned out to be a little thicker than the original rope on the posts, but it worked just fine as a replacement. I was also pleased to discover that my cats began using the newly refurbished posts almost immediately. It was much less expensive to reapply new rope than to replace the posts!.
The ripped up posts on my cat's cat tree were covered with this rope. This did an excellent job. It's the perfect shade of blue and appears to be very tidy. I've had it around my cat tree for about 2 months and it's still going strong after all the scratching and kitty abuse: ) I am very pleased with the quality of this rope and would recommend it to anyone who is working on a DIY fixer upper.
I bought this to replace the twine on a cat scratch post, and it's actually a lot nicer than the original twine, and I'm very pleased with the quality and durability. The reviewer who suggested ordering twice as much as you think you'll need deserves a shout-out. I would have only bought one if I hadn't measured it first. I needed two of these.
