HP used to sell high-end calculators, but that is no longer the case. They're trying to compete with low-cost, low-quality manufacturers by selling the cheapest garbage they can make. Why? I'm not sure, but in the last two years, I've gone through two laptops, and this calculator's screen is so small that you can't read it when it's on your desk. I paid around $80 for the previous version of this calculator. It now costs 1/4 as much and has a quality level of 1/100. This is a reincarnation of pure garbage. Buy a different brand and ignore HP until their management changes and they decide to return to producing quality at higher prices rather than junk at low prices. Consumers pay more for junk electronics because they have to replace them more frequently than they would for high-quality products like Apple, which cost more but provide years of trouble-free or nearly faultless service.
I'm lucky I'm working on a Master's Degree because I wouldn't know where to start with this calculator if I didn't have one. It's not for the inexperienced, and it's similar to other calculators. It's been extremely useful after I spent some time learning how to use it. For the money, it's a good deal.
I've been using a HP10B for years, and it's very simple to use once you get the hang of it. What you pay for, however, is what you get. This particular model is made of cheap plastic. It's functional, but the quality could be higher.
My first one, which I received in 1996 while taking an advanced commercial real estate investment course, lasted a long time. This year, I simply had to replace it! I use some of the advanced features on a daily basis. This is a fantastic item.
I was hoping for the older version to arrive - the darker brown one, which appears to be made of a more durable material parts of high quality But, so far, it's been a great success. I'm currently using it in my university's finance and accounting classes, and it's great for everything we're doing. If you don't change the period to 1 instead of 12, you'll end up with a lot of problems with equations and functions. I wish it were a little more sturdy, but it's a great deal so far.
At the very least, I got an A in accounting.
This review is for the HP 10 bII. It performs admirably. It is strongly advised that you watch YouTube videos on how to use it. It's not at all like the TI calculators I've used in the past. If you're taking a finance class and your professor suggests it, it's a must-have.
Negative reviewers are just throwing shade, so ignore them. As a seasoned H-level employee, As a P Calc user who has used both a 12C and a 17B, I see no flaws in this new model. Bonding and stats have been improved. The functions are useful and relatively simple to use. The battery life of the 2032 discs should be better than that of the old LR44 buttons, hopefully.
