The pillow/pad portion is quite thin, and the hard surface portion is quite slick. The rubberized dots on the bottom of my laptop keep it in place. My mouse, on the other hand, slid down almost instantly, as did my phone (when it wasn't in a phone case). And this was while I was sitting on my couch, straight up. You should be able to recline with it while drawing or coloring if you cover it or clip a thin blanket over it. As a result, your book and supplies will not be misplaced.
Although my cushion did not smell, it is removable. Take it off and put it in the washer or hang it outside to dry for a while.
Yes, it has a silky smooth finish. Pens roll around on it all the time because it's so smooth. However, it is suitable for writing purposes.
Yes. There's a cushion on the couch. It keeps it in place on your lap. Or any other surface for that matter. This is an exceptionally well-made lap desk. It can also be used as a serving tray. There are numerous applications for this product.

However, the situation has been resolved to some extent. It's a good deal at $13. Dimensions, finish, and overall quality are all important factors to consider. But, while it's not worth returning (shipping would be more expensive than the item), I'm not sure I can recommend it for one main reason: It's a little too slick. To keep the computer (or anything else) from sliding off, it needs a more textured surface. One could argue that I should keep my knees level, but the truth is that I don't always do so, and as a result, the laptop migrates downward or slides completely into my lap. br>br>UPDATE: br>br> I came up with a solution to the problem. Stretch two rubber bands from top to bottom to create a slick surface. The laptop was able to get enough traction as a result of this. This is a big enough surface to fit a Surface Pro and a Fuji Scansnap i1300 scanner on while still leaving room to the right (or left if you're left-handed).
It wouldn't surprise me if this product causes cancer in me. A strong chemical burning smell filled my entire house before it was even taken out of the box. It was overpowering when I first opened it, and my head began to hurt immediately. I wiped down the surface, but the real culprit was the "new foam" (as stated on the tag) made of polyurethane, with added flame retardants, as stated. Even though I placed the now-empty cardboard box in the hall, the stench was still unbearable. I took it out to recycle it and immediately ripped the foam cushion off to throw away. Both of them needed to be thrown out. I'm in the process of removing the staples that held the foam in place, and I'll just use this as a surface, with a blanket underneath for comfort. I should've just returned this filthy, cancer-causing item, but I couldn't bear dealing with it. The surface appears to be fine, but as someone who is neither chemically sensitive nor cautious (I don't go out of my way to avoid chemicals), this was far too intense for me. I never write reviews, either, but you should save your health and buy something else instead.
Update: I made a short wall around the desk with Duct tape, which worked perfectly. I'm also going to include some photos of the bottom. br>br>I use it for laptop work, as well as polymer clay sculpting, drawing, and other crafts. It's definitely large enough, and the under padding is excellent at not leaving marks on my legs. The entire thing is extremely light for its size. br>br>The only issue is that the slick surface causes everything to roll or slide off of it when I move or tilt it in any direction. I've had to dive to catch my laptop or materials more than once because I have four cats who like to walk across my work surface. I'm going to get the sticky shelf liner as recommended by another reviewer, and I'm hoping it will help. br>br>I'd also like a slightly raised ridge around the edge so that when I put the desk down to get something, I don't have to search for my pencils or tools when I return. Something I'm sure I could add myself, but it would have been nice to have.
To keep the laptop from sitting directly on my lap, I needed something. I'm using a 15-inch mouse. I needed a large enough space to fit my 15-inch laptop in. This laptop desk is exactly what you're looking for. Some of the complaints about this item are perplexing to me. My lap is comfortable because the bottom is padded. As some have claimed, things do not "slide off. " Although the surface is smooth, most laptops, like mine, have a non-smooth surface. Put your feet down on the ground. It might be an issue if you try to use it while lying down, but I've never had any issues. The only problem, which isn't really a problem, is that my optical mouse has trouble reading the black surface. The problem was easily solved with a piece of patterned contact paper. The desk is well-made and comfortable to work at. In general, I'm very happy.
0 out of 5 stars I needed a new lap desk, but I didn't want to pay some of the exorbitant prices for those available online. line. This product appeared to be a possibility due to its reasonable price, but I was concerned by some of the negative reviews about its slippery surface and offensive odor. But I went ahead and ordered it, and wow, am I glad I did! This "desk" is much larger than I expected, but it's the perfect size for me: my laptop computer fits on it with plenty of room to spare, and the cushion on the backside makes it comfortable to hold even with the computer mounted on it. I'm not sure why anyone thought this was slick (or small). A ball could roll off if the board wasn't flat in a lap, but my computer, iPhone holder, and other devices all have built-in non-skid features. They can't move because of the anti-skid rubber. 98 out of 100 people, I'm sure, think the same way. br>br>For less than $13, this is an excellent deal. I'm overjoyed that I had the foresight to buy it. It is deserving of a solid 5-star rating. Nothing less than a five-star rating is acceptable.
To put it mildly, I'm blown away. It's a simple design, but it's effective. It's a fantastic size - large enough to comfortably hold my 13-inch MacBook Air I bought this to use in the living room when I'm sitting on the sofa and in the bedroom when I want to relax before bedtime by putting my feet up, as well as for some of my craft projects - The size is large enough to accommodate my 12" x 18" craft mat (I make handcrafted greeting cards and use a variety of sharp objects in that process). I can also easily use my 12" paper cutter, so it's almost perfect. br>br>I say "almost" because the surface is slick, as others have noted. My laptop is protected by a hardshell case with rubber feet, so that's not an issue, but the slick surface interferes with my craft projects. I purchased a set of three large "rubber bands" in the end. They were designed to be used on trash cans to keep plastic trash bags from falling into the can. They were just the right size and functioned flawlessly. The issue has been resolved! Definitely worth the less-expensive option. br>br> It cost me less than thirteen dollars - a fantastic deal!.
