My husband is over 200 pounds and spends at least 6 hours a day, if not more, sitting in a home office chair. In the last 12 years or so, we've gone through quite a few chair mats. The majority of them dent quickly (immediately) and crack soon after. We've had this mat for over a month and have yet to notice any dents or cracks. After a year, I'll make an effort to remember to update it. We've had a few, but this is the best so far. br>NOTE: THIS PAGE HAS BEEN UPDATED. My husband and his office chair wore holes and cracks in the mat under the wheels after about two years of use. That is the longest period of any other. br>THE UPDATE TO THE UPDATE: To replace the worn-out one, we placed an order for a new one. It had an 8 rating when it arrived. It has a 5" crack. That's not a scratch in the photo; it's a crack that runs the length of the object. Most items are simple to return for a replacement, but this one is not. We're not going to be able to get it back into the box rolled up. These are shipped in such a tight rolled and wrapped state that they must be opened with extreme caution! At Amazon, I'm trying to figure out how to talk to a human. There was no way to get it back into the box. Argh! HELP!.
The Floortex Polycarbonate 60" x 48" Chair Mat was the item I purchased. This mat is 0. according to the manufacturer's response. 3mm thick at 11" I did, however, receive a chair mat that measured 59" L x 47" W. 1/32" T x 1/8" W A tape measure was used to determine the length and width. A calibrated digital caliper was used to measure the thickness, which yielded a result of 2. 02mm (0. 08"), which is a fraction of an inch.
This chair mat has been in my possession for exactly two years. It's replacing an older mat that I bought locally about 8 years ago and was starting to fall apart; that older mat never moved and performed admirably until I had to replace it because it was literally falling apart. br>br>This mat appears to be more formal than the one it replaced. The carpet is medium pile residential with foam padding, so a solid mat is important. What I mean by sturdy is that it was thin enough that the wheels of my chair did not cause the mat to flex and create indentations, making rolling the chair more difficult. br>br>The reason I didn't give this mat a higher rating is that the 'teeth' that hold it in place aren't quite deep enough, and it moves around a lot. I don't recall having to reposition the old mat under my desk at any point. Because the mat slides forward and to the right over time due to how I position myself in the chair, I'm depositing it on a monthly basis with this mat. br>br>I'm going to look for a new mat because I'm tired of having to reposition this one. This mat is one I would not purchase again.
Following the purchase, an initial assessment was made: "I purchased two of the mats to place on a medium pile carpeted floor to provide a base for my and my wife's office chairs to be positioned in our respective offices. It'll take some time to determine how durable it is and whether or not it will crack. So far, everything seems to be going swimmingly. "br>br>It's been a year. Not good at all! The popping noises were caused by cracks in the mat's center. 190 lb. office chair with a light weight. The mat had apparently had enough of me. My wife's mat is in the same situation. It was a huge let down.
I decided to give the Floortex a try after years of purchasing mats from Costco or Sams Club and watching them deteriorate and crack in front of my eyes. It's more expensive than the other options, but my husband and son needed something that wouldn't bend or divot after a long period of sitting in the same position. Things only got worse after we bought new carpet for the entire house last summer. br>So the Floortex arrived on time in a long box with the mat rolled inside; several warnings on the mat's wrapping made it clear that it was under a lot of tension and that unwrapping and unrolling it should be done with two people. My first impression was that this mat was extremely stiff in comparison to all previous mats we'd purchased, and I was surprised that it could be rolled up and shipped. My husband tried it out after it had relaxed into a flat position after only a minute. His desk chair glides across the mat as if it were on a wooden floor, and the wheels do not sink into the mat at all. I bought one for a gamer/streamer I know. It's a hit with my son. The next test will be durability, as we've only had these for about two weeks, but so far, I'm completely sold on this product and believe I can justify the higher price. In my opinion, this is a five-star product. UPDATE: After nine months of use, I can confidently state that this is the best office mat I've ever had. Even when I sit on it, it remains incredibly sturdy. The weight has been evenly distributed. The ONLY issue I've had is that it seems to shift back slightly whenever I move, but it's so minor that I don't notice it for weeks, and I'm fairly certain it's just because I underestimated the thickness of my carpet. Overall, I would recommend this product to anyone in the market for a new floor mat. br>br>First Impressions: So, I recently received this mat and thought I'd share my initial impressions. I'm giving it four stars because, so far, it appears to be a fantastic product, but I haven't had it long enough to give it five. I was delighted to discover that the mat arrived flat. It was simple to remove from the packaging, and it is much more rigid than my previous mat. Because the mat does not sag beneath the wheels, it appears that it will last much longer. Although the mat appears to be almost too easy to roll on, the textured top keeps my feet from slipping, which is a good thing. Overall, my first impression of this product is favorable: it is of high quality, was shipped promptly, and the seller was responsive when I had a question. I'll update this after I've used the product for a while.
I expected it to last longer for a $100 piece of plastic (Polycarbonate). I have a standard executive chair with rollers that is very similar to yours in style and design. Commercial carpet with a super thin padding/moisture barrier is laid over concrete beneath the mat. If I weighed 300 pounds and sat on this mat on fluffy carpet, I'd expect this kind of cracking - This isn't the situation. I used the link on the product page to submit a warranty claim. If they stand by their product (as shown in the photo), I will update this review.
