Textured. They have a smooth texture rather than a rough one. When my arms rest on them, I don't notice any texture. I hope this clarifies things for you.
They are, in fact, gentle. It has a bathing suit-like texture to it.

When the vinyl on the arms of my office chair began to peel, I decided to replace them with black vinyl. Reupholstering the arms would be a tedious task that would almost certainly fail. The chair arm pads are 15 inches long and 4 inches wide at their widest point, so finding these covers was a gamble. The arm covers stretch just enough to make a nice tight fit without being too tight. There will no longer be any small black vinyl pieces on the floor.
I put these on and they look nice, but to make them last longer, I use safety pins to keep them in place.
My desk chair was still in good shape in terms of the chair itself, but as we all know, faux leather wears out over time, and I didn't want to replace it, so I began looking for a cover for the chair and arms. I was able to find what I needed thanks to Amazon. My chair's arms are about 9" long, so these covers fit perfectly. I didn't realize how long some of the covers stretched, so I ordered ones that were too long the first time; these are shorter than most of the ones I found, so they fit better and don't have as much fabric leftover. Check your measurements before ordering to avoid having to order twice, as I did. The size and quality of these are perfect for me. The green is also a lovely color that complements the cover I purchased.
The chair continues to function properly. I purchased two pairs of these arm covers and slanted two of them to cover each arm of my chair completely. They stay firmly in place, and I no longer have to be concerned about my chair's arms. I also purchased a seat cover that was similar.
Because I dislike the feel of bonded "leather" against my skin, I purchased these to cover the arms of my new office chair. The arms were 13 1/2" long, and the covers were only supposed to cover a 13" arm, but they had enough stretch to fit snugly and feel much better than the "leather. " The color was my only gripe. Most office chairs are either black or dark brown; I ordered the "coffee" color, which I expected to be a dark brown; however, these have a lot of red in them, almost a maroon shade, nothing like coffee; It appears that a dark brown to match the brown chairs will be produced. Apart from the color, I am very pleased with them, but I would advise anyone who has a brown chair to order the black ones instead. They'd look better on the chair than this color, in my opinion.
Because of the ridges in the fabric, I don't find the fabric to be as soft as some reviewers claim. In addition, after only one week, one side of the fabric has begun to pill. BTW, if you're thinking about buying these, there are several sellers selling the same covers with the same photos (I'm sure from the same company), so go for the cheapest one.
They're still 1/4 inch thick and twice as wide as they were when they were new! It's the one on the right side that takes the brunt of the punishment, as it's where I use my mouse and where I constantly rest my elbow!! I play a ten-minute game. Every day for fourteen hours! I replaced them with foam from the top cover that was covering my RTX GPU, and they seem to be working just as well as anything else I've tried so far!.
The only issue is that my chair isn't exactly like the ones pictured, and there isn't much for these to grip or wrap around, so they fall off every now and then. However, this is still preferable to chair peeling. Overall, I'm pleased with my purchase; I don't believe it's the product's fault, but rather the chair's design.
