Questions & Answers

scan in true true PDF format or do you have to wrap a PDF header around a jpeg like some other scanners do? This is a major difference in size. ?

In order to make a "true PDF," the device would have to perform OCR, recognize the layout of the pages, and then reconstruct the page from the scanned images. This is done by separating text from non-text content. In order to accomplish that, you will need a computer, a text recognition program, and usually user interaction (to alter layout). I know of no scanner that can automatically process anything like that (I wish), so the answer is no, the PDFs made with this device aren't searchable PDFs with text and images, though they will be bitmap images (jpegs)

Do you have a Windows 8 machine running this?

I confirm that it does work with Windows 8 as well as Windows 8.1 Attach the scanner to your computer with a USB cable so that it can recognize the micro SD card and you can view the scans that are on the card. The scanner needs to be ON before the computer can recognize it.

Are there any storage bags or cases included with this, or where can I buy them?

There was, in fact, a nice velvet bag that the scanner could be carried in when it was removed You can take the scanner with you when the unit is charged, and you can return to the base to download it (A micro card is required for this The following is excluded).

Have you encountered any distortion at the top or bottom of the pictures you ?

This is a straight translation. It may be that you have fed the document too fast or too slowly. Different speeds should be practiced to see how they differ.

The best scanner you can take with you
5/5

After receiving the scanner, I charged it using the included 120V to USB adapter and USB cable, and then installed an 8gb microSD card. The quality of the scan was very good when using it as a "hand/wand scanner. ". Practice is necessary to avoid slanted scans, but even at the lowest quality setting (300dpi), the quality of the scan is excellent. Once I docked the scanner to the dock, I used the sheet feeder to feed the documents. Regardless of the settings, the scan quality is excellent even at the low and medium Please take note! It is powered by an in-built lithium battery when used as a hand scanner or wand scanner. If the original is letter-sized, both in color and in black and white The scanning times (when docked) are as follows For LOW (300dpi) we set the timer for 8 seconds, for MEDIUM (600dpi) for 10 seconds, and for HIGH (1200dpi) for If you are scanning while docked at 1200dpi, you will need a microSD card of at least class 6. You can scan a document and get either jpg or pdf files from the scanner. In addition to the hand held scanner, a light weight bag is provided to store the wand You can download the free version of ABBYY FineReader 9 here. I have not yet tried this software at the time of this review.

When you are away from home, it is convenient to scan
5/5

The price and reviews made this scanner my top pick because there were a number of these types of scanners to choose from. The camera requires an SD card, so you should include it in the price. A small SD card will suffice, since you will need to transfer your As the scanner is rolled down the paper manually, the scanning bar is placed at the top of the paper, and the scanning bar is then moved to the bottom. Getting the page to stay on the page is challenging In the event the scanner is not pulled evenly, the scan will be distorted. A number of dpi settings, pdf or jpeg formats, as well as black and white and color options, are available. When I do a pdf, I usually just do color.
I have scanned checks to be cashed, documents that needed a signature, and articles for my blog. Several pages of a travel book, a line, and a map. It'll help if you have a steadier hand than I do if you scan the images smoothly. I have a tendency to skew the images to one side due to the way I pull the scanning bar down. Nevertheless, the scans are adequate for my needs. There are very few ATMs in Europe, and cashing a check is very difficult. A scanned copy of the signed check can usually be sent via the internet if you have an account with a US bank. Although the scans may have some distortion due to the swerving of the scanning bar, the banks find that they are generally However, you may have to try a few times to fully perform the scan. In order to prevent the check from sliding, it is best to use two people, one to move the scanning bar, and the other to hold the bottom and then top of the check. My large map wouldn't fit in my bag, so I went on a walking trail without it. Scanning the part of the map that I was walking proved to be very convenient. If you like to cover longer areas of interest, you can position the scanner over the middle of the map and drag it down to cover that area. I was asked if it would cover longer areas than 31 inches, but I have not tried to do that. There is no mention of the scanner's scan time, except that a signal will be created if it is being done too fast. In the beginning, I set the settings to simulate a mechanical scanner, which is five to ten seconds an inch, say. My scanning speed increased to one or two seconds as I got more experienced. Until now, I have never been notified of the "too fast" message. In my opinion, this is not a good idea for scanning photographs, as there is a high possibility of introducing distortions with it. You might be able to do it with some practice. Nevertheless, it seems that the IRS always has a document they want you to submit at the most inconvenient of times, and this scanner will keep the Feds happy, so I'm all for that! The pros are This is a cheap, handy device when you're short on time. The downside This is a challenging tool to use, especially with.

My scanner is nice and worth the price
4/5

I was looking for something to scan books, and I couldn't use a flatbed scanner. This was a purchase I did not expect to enjoy much, but was pleasantly surprised by it. The scanner is very good. I like the ease of use and the quality of the product. This method works as long as you scan the page instead of reading from top to bottom from the spine to the edge. Since one edge of the scanner is only 1/4", you can scan down close to the spine where there are white spaces, and scan across to the other end to get the entire There is a bit of learning curve with this scanner, but after a couple of days you will be able to handle it just fine. You can either scan in PDF format Though it has three dpi settings, I have found that 300dpi works best for text, and scanning faster at 300 is also an advantage. It is ok to have a preview screen on the scanner, but won't be much use for scanning books since the screen is so small that you can't see anything. I don't use the zoom feature much since it will zoom. The OCR software that it comes with is terrible, there are a lot of characters that it won't recognize. I downloaded free OCR software, but that was no better. I haven't tried it on any photos yet, but I have no doubt it must work just fine. An online website called onlineocr caught my eye. is an online OCR tool that is free to use (you can upload up to 15 images per hour). When I run a spell check on each page, it does a great job, and most of the time I don't have to do much more. Your image will be automatically recognized and rotated to convert it correctly when you use online OCR. In addition, there is an alternative model of this brand that is a handheld scanner that docks into a desktop sheet feeder, which I would have chosen if I realized the preview option was not required. As long as you give it time to learn to use, you will not go wrong with this handheld scanner as long as you give it a high degree of attention and care. There is only one real negative on this - it is battery operated ONLY and has no ac adapter or any place to plug it With heavy use, it will only last a short time, depending on the type of batteries you put in it (2 AA batteries). Also, it does not come with a microSD card, so you will want to buy one before you use it.
