Be sure to read reviews before you make a purchase. The goal of this project was to like this product and give it the best possible chance of success. In order to run my consulting business, I have to travel quite a bit. If I could automatically generate my expense reports as I go, rather than sifting through a pile of receipts over the weekend, I would have a better time getting things done. Once your images have been scanned in, they are sent out to "the cloud" for processing, then a processed image is delivered back to you. Obviously, you can manually enter all the data, but then what's the point? Can you still scan the receipt if you don't have a connection to the internet? My statement may be subjective, but let me put it into perspective I can manually scan an invoice with my 8 year old HP scanner, crop out all the negative space, and enter the data into Excel in LESS time than Neat's scanner and software takes A second time. Considering that the product is no longer available, what's the point? I had to contact their technical support line because I failed to retrieve my registration code due an earlier attempt to use their software with my HP scanner (which wasn't supported), before I actually purchased Neat's scanner package. Even if you reach a human after 20 minutes, there is little chance that it will be accepted I was "on hold" for 30 minutes before I was able to reach someone and they were able to get things corrected. Please let the rest of us know that without registering this product, you can't use it at all! In order to access this, you need an Internet connection. If you are out of town or lack access to the Internet for whatever reason, you will not be able to do so. In the end, I decided to return the scanner since it didn't live up to expectations. I'm not sure what I'm looking for. 2 out of 5 stars for this product because it "sort of" works. In short, it doesn't seem to work The Canon P90 will work for you. If you're a power user, you're better off with a Fujitsu portable scanner and Scan everything if you are completely obligated to do so. Time is money, and while it is more expensive, it's worth it. In my case, I used Shoeboxed to take pictures of my receipts before I sent them. Handling all manual data entry is taken care of by them. While it does not have as many reports as I'd like, it is 100x more functional than Neat. Having made this review as objective as I was able to, I hope it will be helpful to others as well. Although the Neat product may add value to some, I did not find it to be useful for my needs.

Don't take the gamble if you value your time. I took my time and read both the good and the bad reviews. A thorough analysis of this product was conducted by me. In my opinion, it seemed like a cool little device that would simplify my tax preparation for my small business. Upon receiving the package, I was so delighted! I started the process after spending my precious time to download it, etc. After spending the significant time to install it, etc. I started, it was a horrible experience. I was able to set up my folders and expense categories using the 'free trial' software that they have you install via a Just after I have spent two precious hours with it, I get a pop up message from Windows saying "Neat has stopped working. ". The problem cannot be solved, and as such Windows will now close the program (BTW, I use Then I think, "OK, lets do it. " - It's not a big deal It will work again when you close it out, reopen it, and then reopen it". Not at all. The error remains the same. Do a reboot and then Not at all. The error remains the same. It's a WHOLE LOT of work! Google's search results for "Neat stopped working" led me to this result. Google returns a huge amount of results when I search. There is no explanation for the error when I go to the Neat company's site. They have all sorts of instructions (and different 'possibilities' for 'why' this could occur. However, there are no one or two clear reasons! ). I tried running C before trying various fixes. I moved the "Q-" folder from /programs/commonfiles/NeatCompany to "/programs/commonfiles/NeatCompany. . . " It was instructed to copy "something" [I don't remember the actual name of the folder] to my desktop. I couldn't get anything to work. The problem continues to bother me when I Google it (I can't stand it! The only thing I want to do is 1) I found complaints about the Neat company on the Consumer Affairs website. I read the complaints, and they sound just like the one I am experiencing. In the next few pages, I learned they don't have a customer service department at all It is real. NO! I went directly to Amazon and began returning the item. It is no longer relevant. It wouldn't be worth the time to waste your precious time like I did and thousands of others have.
