was) the best portable duplex scanner in its class

I have made the following changes for the 10th of April The features of this scanner are excellent, and its small size, speed and performance are excellent, as I noted in my original 5-star review. The review has been given five stars. Two reasons are the reason why I'm only giving that 3 stars, one for each of the two issues. Both are major concerns in my view 1. During the manufacturing process, there was an issue with quality. One year after almost exactly one year of warranties (barely during the warranty period) all 2-piece sets had a 1" wide black band on the side There was a left-sided scan on the left side. Epson honored the warranty and replaced the unit with a refurbished one. On the replacement unit, 8 months after the initial malfunction (which was exacerbated by the very light use), the SAME problem is occurring again (a slightly different position for the band). As it's no longer under warranty, it's no longer warrantied. The first time you fooled me, I learned my lesson. In other words, two out of two scanners of this model failed in the same way The year has gone by rapidly. and in the first scanner, the card feeder stopped working as well. 1) It continues to function as a 1-for the time being Scan both sides of a document. Please note "2. There are a lot of problems with the edge detection mechanism. Rather than relying on the physical edge of the page, it appears to also use software to detect changes in the black/white densities on the page There are a lot of errors in the algorithm. A document with a lot of black areas or almost all white with light text may be split into two pages prematurely, or the page may be arbitrarily terminated. Furthermore, it continues to do this even if you set the page length to a fixed length which corresponds to the actual paper size. And yet further stupidly, if you are doing 1- to 2-1, all that is changed is the page height and the page width. Unless you use a two-sided scanner to scan a document and the BACK side (the side you are not scanning) still has these large black areas, it will muddle your results (e. g. You'll need to split the page in half with about 1/2" of the middle missing) In reality, 90% of scans do not have this issue, but the 10% that do result in frustration due to the fact that there is no simple way to "persuade" the scanner to scan correctly. It is sometimes necessary to scan those sheets on a different scanner then use a PDF editor to merge the pages manually (which takes ten times longer and is hardly the method any user wants to employ). I reviewed the (1) Epson ES-500 about two years ago in my original review (approximately end 2017) This is my third portable scanner of this type. I also have the (2) Fujitsu ScanSnap s1300 (which I still have, but the pixels within it have started to become dead after several years of use) and the (3) Canon P-1000. Item 215 II. (To be complete, I'll mention that in this category of portable duplex scanners there are 1) Short In every way, the Epson is superior to the Fujitsu. While the Canon is even more compact (though somewhat more fragile), it has a design flaw that mainly affects photo scanning, which put it out of my consideration. This link will take you to my review of the Canon During my review, I will analyze the Epson ES-400 In comparing it with the Fujitsu S1300 (over which it is better in every way), it reaches a total of 300W. Despite loving my Fujitsu for many years, I did not realize its limitations (it has a few years left to its warranty, and badly needs updating) until I purchased the Epson to replace it when it started losing Here is a list of all the ways the Epson ES-100 can be used In comparison with the Fujitsu s1300, the 300W is superior. Compared to each other, both have nearly the same size and are in a similar price range. Getting a good scan takes time (Estimated) Epson at 300 dpi is 5x faster than this. Please note *br* Sound of scanning Epson is silent and the paper slides through (with Fujitsu you hear the rattling of the stepper motor)*- Compatible with Any scanning software can be used with Epson scanners because TWAIN compatibility is built-in. Unlike Fujitsu, Fujitsu is not TWAIN-compliant, and therefore forces you to use their software (which has a number of Please note *br* Getting the most out of scanning Among the native file types supported by Epson are TIFF, JPG, BMP, PDF, JPG and PDF are the only formats supported by Fujitsu. The Epson JPG file format allows you to select a quality level of up The Fujitsu will let you choose four compression levels, but even at the lowest level (the highest quality), the photos are somewhat lossy (the Epson lets you save your files as TIFF, so you won't lose any detail when compressed). When scanning with Epson, you can adjust several parameters such as the brightness, contrast, and gamma directly at the time Fujitsu does not provide this capability. Please note *br* Taking a picture of the card With Epson, plastic cards and business cards can be scanned at the same time It is not available from Fujitsu (it is available, but I do not find it very useful for my applications). Please note *br* There is a USB 3 port. For Epson, there was no conversion Fujitsu did not receive a point). Apart from the faster transfer speed, this allows Epson to operate without an A/C adapter via USB 3. Epson takes advantage of this by being able to operate without a computer and no A/C adapter. also allows you to scan with no power adapter, but more slowly, and two USB 2 ports. There are two USB ports connected with no cables). Please note *br* Epson comes with a rechargeable battery In the case of Fujitsu, none. Please note *br* Connect via WiFi or a For Fujitsu, there are no connections 2 is the second USB port. Only Fujitsu had a score of 0.
YOU MUST ALSO BELIEVE THAT EPSON AND FUJITSU ARE EQUAL. The physical size of a person - There is an optical resolution limit of 600 dpi- There is one The Fujitsu Superior is capable of duplex scanning

Summary I have not found anything yet. Epson is the way to go You can't go wrong with this. In my opinion, the only improvement that could be made would be to add an internal memory to allow scanning (in some default "auto" mode) without a computer, just by using the scanner alone. Because it already offers cable, it makes sense to bring it on board The battery is rechargeable, so this is less of a problem. It is a shame that this simple and inexpensive option was not added A feature that costs money.

I love my hardware, but I hate my software
3/5

Obtaining the setup This scanner is extremely difficult to set up (on MacOS Sierra) in wireless mode. An app called EpsonNet Config, which wasn't listed in any of the support sections for the ES-300, had to be found By looking under a model of an older scanner, you can see its 300W. There is only one other way to set it up using WiFi Protected Setup (WPS). This is a security risk and you should disable it A brief description of OCR in wireless mode is as follows One of the best features of this scanner is the ABBYY software, which provides excellent results in OCR. In wireless mode, however, ABBYY software cannot be used. It is unlikely that Epson will provide an ICA driver for these scanners anytime soon. As a result, the scanner does not appear in the Mac Image Capture Application, nor does it appear in the ABBYY application in wireless mode. On Apple's list of devices for which the software can be automatically downloaded, the scanner is not listed. You can also find a standalone "ICA" driver on Epson's support website if you check older devices. It is an ES-rated system There is no such download on the Epson Support website for the X00 series as of yet (on the Epson There is something extremely frustrating about this. In order to achieve superior OCR performance with this scanner, it cannot be used in wireless mode with the ABBYY software. USB is the only way in which ABBYY works. When you use wireless mode, you have to use Epson's software, which has a terrible How long will it take Epson to release a driver enabling all of the claimed functions?.

It is a great purchase for me, and I am really satisfied with it

Just this week, I received this scanner. A lot of time was spent shopping around, and I'm very pleased with my It is almost perfect in terms of the document feeder. The system was able to pull each sheet in order, has not bent or warped anything (rather, so far), and supports double-sided printing Scanning is done on both sides. It has been loaded with paper multiple times to find the software thinks it's empty, but I've been able to fix it by removing and reinserting This problem appears to be resolved when you insert the paperwork. Epson software isn't very good, and it's been tough to get the software working on my wireless network (and I'm in IT, too! In the end, I spent more than an hour trying to get this thing to connect to my very standard, WPA2-equipped router A wireless network that is encrypted. I had read in the manual that EpsonNet Config was included in the download but it wasn't. It took me a while to figure out Epson Scan 2 Utility and connect it via WDS, which my Apple AirPort router does not support. Nevertheless, my connection was so unstable that I wasn't able to pull all of the files to my computer when I finally got around to scanning An example of a 5-item shopping list When I tried to open a two-page document, it would give up after two pages and take a long time. switched to USB in the end, which has served me well. I don't know why, but I have a strange preference for looking programs). According to the AVX, ABBYY Software can be obtained only through installing Epson's drivers, then running Epson Software Updater this isn't surprising considering the scanner is so expensive. You are paying for OCR, so be sure to use In light of all of this, I have hopped ship from Doxie scanners (I've purchased three over the years) and will never look I'm very happy with this purchase, except for the subpar software.
