It allows you to split the signal from a pedal board between a couple of heads to run both simultaneously or individually without affecting the signal quality or changing the output level to the heads, and it can also be utilized to loop multiple effect As far as adding noise to amps and cabinets, I haven't noticed any, as well as no popping. A great deal for the money, gives you a huge variety of tonal options, and is a great value.
The Fender Deluxe amp allows me to simultaneously switch between a dirty amp (Blackstar) and a clean amp (Fender Deluxe) and sometimes to blend the two This works well with both music and speakers, there is no volume drop in either speaker when you play The switch does not make a pop when it is turned on and The best of both worlds.

For each side you have two buttons and for always on you have the via output.
