Questions & Answers

What makes the 420 different from the 220?

The 420 is a dual diaphragm mic with three polar patterns to choose from. The 220 is a single large diaphragm microphone with a single capsule. This makes the 420 more versatile, allowing it to be used on vocals, instruments, cabinets, and even as a room/atmospheric microphone. br>In addition, the 420 is a little more sensitive.

This is going to be used as a church pulpit microphone. Is it possible to speak into it from a distance of 24 inches and get a good signal?

Yes, you can speak from it even if you're 2 feet away if it's connected to a mixer/audio interface with 48v phantom power. However, this would necessitate a boost in gain. However, you can absolutely do so.

Is this a newer p420 model or an older model that has been discontinued? The newer ones, unlike this one, appear to be labeled p420 rather than "perception 420." ?

Hello Benjamin,br>This is a listing for the brand new P420. It appears that Amazon has a title that is incorrect. I'll file a ticket to have this fixed. br>We do have the new AKG P420s in stock, and if you order them from us, you will receive them. Does it come with a USB to connect mic to laptop? How do I record with this mic on my Macbook using Garage Band?

There are no cables in the box; The mic and a shock mount are all that is required. Because this is an all-analog device with an XLR connection, you'll need an audio interface that supports XLR connections. You'll need an audio interface that can also supply phantom power because this is a condenser microphone. Be aware that many simple cables claiming to connect XLR devices via USB do not provide phantom power.

A fantastic microphone
5/5

To begin with, I have a second job doing voiceovers and voiceacting. The noisiness of my recording setup seemed to be having an effect on the quality of work I was landing. Despite the fact that I use an excellent USB, the AudioTechnica ATR2020, every fan on my workstation was running in the background. I built a custom recording booth with sound proofing tiles and a cover, but I could still hear everything, so I switched to a laptop to see if the issue was ambient or mic sound - The digital sound came through the mic with a bang. After much trial and error, I decided to try an xlr with an xlr to usb input. I tried a few and wasn't satisfied with the vocal tones or noise levels, so I took a chance on this one because it was on sale and within my budget. It worked flawlessly with this and a Neewer xlr to USB converter. Unless I forget to turn on the xlr converter, which is unlikely. By the way, it's powered - It hasn't caused me any issues so far. The sound quality complements my alto voice, and the directionality is ideal for keeping noises outside the house out of my recording, despite living on a busy main street. To keep things as quiet as possible, I use an Altron pop filter enclosure, and I've been very pleased with the overall vo results. My clients have as well, because bookings are the most important metric for me. With fewer auditions and better clients, you'll come out on top. You'll still need to learn how to clean up your noise levels, but overall, this is an excellent microphone for mid-level voice actors or podcasters.

They're only average
3/5

There are benefits and drawbacks to each of these, and I've been using two of them. I gave it three stars because they don't work very well together. As a result, it's more of a split decision. br>br>One of them is always humming, which goes away when you touch the microphone on the top. It doesn't seem to be a grounding issue, but the humming continues regardless of where it's plugged in. br>br>When using the other microphone for podcasting with interviews, it will occasionally decide to pick up all sound from all directions, which means that the other person on the other microphone will suddenly be heard on this one. Because of this, editing is difficult because the sound is echoey. br>br>When they work, they sound fantastic for podcasting; in fact, many people have told me that I and my guests sound fantastic. But there's a lot of unnecessary post-production work to clean up the audio, which I can do because I know how, but I shouldn't have to. I'm going to look into other microphones as soon as possible.

The mic is incredible
5/5

I was able to "fix" it after I "fixed" it! This microphone appeals to me greatly. Exceptional build quality, excellent shock mount, selectable polar pattern, and an excellent case When I first got it, however, it emitted a fairly loud 60Hz hum that became much louder as my hand approached the microphone. It was aggravating because I assumed the mic was of poor quality. I even went through Amazon's return procedure and received an RMA. Then I noticed that if I wiggled the XLR cable a little, the hum would go away and the mic would sound great. I took the housing off the bottom on a whim, which wasn't difficult; all I had to do was unscrew and remove the bottom ring. I didn't unscrew the capsule or remove the basket, nor did I "do" anything inside the mic. I reassembled it, and it's worked flawlessly ever since. There is no noise, and the XLR cable is not wiggled. In addition, the sound is ideal for my requirements. I'm not sure what changed when I took it apart, but something did. I purchased it as a low-cost way to add a figure-hugging element to my wardrobe. eight patterns for use in the middle of the day It sounds great in the cardioid pattern, but not so much in the side recordings. Overall, this is a fantastic deal for a long-lasting microphone with excellent sound quality.

The sound quality is excellent
4/5

The delivery was a disaster. There's a ding and a couple of scratches on it. Mic, on the other hand, was unharmed, and I am very pleased with the product. It produces a very distinct sound. My only issue is that when they delivered my package, they threw it over the fence (most likely because my gate was locked at the time), which I would have preferred not to happen. There were a few scratches on the case, as well as a dented corner. This did not sit well with me. It could have been simply left next to the mailbox or carefully placed inside the fence. Or, if you're going to charge me extra, stick to the delivery date I specified. The gate would have remained open if I had been in my right mind. That would have been fantastic. Apart from that, my microphone was intact, and everything appears to be working properly so far, so I can't really complain. However, if someone is willing to spend a lot of money on high-quality equipment, the service should match.

AKG P420
5/5

For the price, this is an excellent microphone from AKG. The P420 is a phantom-powered condenser microphone. There's a cardioid, omnidirectional, or figure 8 polar pattern switch, as well as a 0 - 10 polar pattern switch. There's also a bass cut filter switch and a 20db switch. The frequency response ranges between 20 Hz and 20 kHz. To prevent shorting to the back electrode, a gold sputtered diaphragm is present on one side. It includes a stylish carrying case as well as a genuine shock mount. This microphone has a wide range of applications and instruments. I've used it with other microphones and it's great. I think it's great for acoustic guitar, drum overheads, vocals, or simply as a room mic in the studio. Of course, there are inexpensive and expensive microphones, and different people will get different sounds from the same microphone. It all depends on what it's used for and how the sound is processed.

(DO NOT BUY IF YOU ALREADY HAVE A RODE PSA 1 ARM)
3/5

It's a fantastic microphone, but the mounting was the real issue. The mount's bolt was too small for my rode psa 1 swivel mount, and it broke quickly.

For the money, this is a fantastic microphone! I recently purchased a Behringer C3 and immediately began comparing it to this AKG
5/5

There was no way to compare the two. When you changed to the figure 8 or omni-directional mode, the sound became even louder. the C3's directional controls The AKG was crystal clear, and I was blown away by how transparent it sounded. This AKG isn't cheap, but it's a significant upgrade over the Shure SM-2000. I was using 57 microphones at the time. Get two!.

It works
3/5

Pro's:
1. Polar patterns that can be chosenbr>2. It picks up a lot of sounds, even the tiniest ones, because it's a condenser mic. br>br>Contrary to popular belief, there are a number of disadvantages to using this product.
1. I can't stand the amount of self-noise it produces. The noise it generates is 12 of the volume of my speaking voice, I would say.
