Selected User Reviews For Universal Audio Apollo Solo Heritage Edition

The quality is good, but it is not suitable for beginners
4/5

This interface was purchased to be used for podcasting, YouTube videos, and music. It's functional, but it's clearly aimed at audio professionals and enthusiasts. If you're not used to audio production or technology, this may be too much for you to handle, depending on your willingness to learn more than a few things about it. br>br>In my opinion, the software/plug-ins that come with this interface are extremely useful. It took me a long time to figure out how to use ins. I was eager to learn, but it soon became clear that this software was far too powerful for my production needs. The plug- Except for a few that are included, ins are an extra cost. After a few days of tinkering with the Apollo Solo, I realized how much it could do that I didn't need and how little it could do that I did. br>br>Overall, my experience with the Apollo Solo was mixed. My computer is a Dell XPS 15 with Windows 10 64-bit installed. bit, and even a 64-bit processor. I tried using a bit DAW and still couldn't get it to record without static. With a cloudlifter, I use a Shure sm7b. In the console, the audio sounded fine, but in the DAW, it sounded terrible. Everything else went smoothly, and the features of this interface are quite impressive. The build quality is excellent, and it has a premium feel to it. However, for $700, I could save $100 by purchasing the Rodecaster Pro, which has more inputs and features that I can actually use in my workflow and is more beginner friendly. That is exactly what I intend to do. br>br>If you're on the fence about buying it, know that I don't think the Apollo is suitable for beginners. But that's just my point of view. If you're a beginner, I'd recommend looking somewhere else or preparing to learn a lot before you can get good results.

Awesome! When everything goes as planned! I've been using this interface for two weeks and now I need to reinstall it
3/5

After the honeymoon period is over, I'll write my review. This is my first high-end interface, and I've never used anything from UA before. Let me start by saying that this is a fantastically cool product that sounds incredible! When everything is in place. br>br>**I am not an audio engineer, and I am by no means an expert; if you need an expert opinion, look for another review and skip this one! TL; TL; TL; TL; TL; TL; TL; TL; TL; TL This isn't a game for the faint of heart! It's fantastic, but there are some quirks and details to be aware of before purchasing. br>br>Creative+ paraphrase: I gave it back to you. It was simply too much for my system to handle, and it kept crashing. I'm sorry I have to return it; however, if it doesn't work, it doesn't work. I'm hoping that whoever gets it has a lot of fun with it. When it works, it's fantastic. br>br>*Stability
Since my purchase, I've had a lot of contact with support. Not only is it difficult to figure out how to use this device, but it also has stability issues, which have improved since using USB-C instead of USB-A. C cables, but it still crashes and freezes every now and then, requiring me to restart my computer. This shouldn't be the case at this price point. I'll also say that it's most likely a case of user error, conflicting drivers, something that isn't officially supported, or something else entirely. Although it is not entirely UA's fault, it is extremely inconvenient, and I am considering requesting a refund. br>br>My 2i2 has sporadic stability issues, such as sound distortion and loud hiss, to the point where I have to plug and unplug the device, but not nearly as frequently as the Apollo Solo. I was hoping that something so high-end would take care of it. For my specific setup, I didn't. If I'm going to have the same problems, I'll just go back to my old setup with the 2i2 and DBX 286s. I'm undecided, but I'll make a decision soon. br>br>*Ease of use
This device is not for beginners, as others have stated. You can't simply turn on the light and walk away. You're in for a world of hurt if you don't understand routing. You're out of luck if you're looking for I/O in a device. Because of USB-C's limitations, UA confirmed that it is only for higher-end devices. Other options, such as Voicemeeter Banana, must be explored. Because OBS has ASIO routing capability, I was able to use it without issue, but learning and using it takes some finesse. It isn't particularly difficult, but it can be aggravating. I'm not sure what happens with other programs that use ASIO or other drivers. It wasn't difficult for me, but it also wasn't enjoyable. As for the issue of zero latency, br>br>*Latency
Both Ableton Live 11 Standard and Studio One 5 Pro are installed on my computer. I still haven't figured out how to get the DAWs to talk to the Apollo and vice versa, so I can take advantage of the zero latency. Because analog monitoring in real time through the DAW still has latency, I obviously still don't understand it completely. It's a joy to use the UA plugins via the interface! There is no latency! I'm still stumped as to how to get the two things to route properly, or if it's even possible without the I/O tab. Maybe latency will always exist, and no matter how much money I spend, there will be nothing I can do about it. If I figure it out, I'll update this post to reflect my folly. br>br>*Plugins and Unison
The included plugins are excellent, and I needed a gate because I work in a noisy environment. The API channel strip was the only plug with a gate that I found. Please keep in mind that these are high-end, name-brand plugins. They are also compatible with your DAW. The problem is that if you've never worked with pro-level gear before, these plugins have a steep learning curve. If you're a newcomer like me, be prepared to read a lot and get frustrated. br>br>The Unison pre is a one-of-a-kind item, and I've never dealt with anything like it before. It's fantastic that you can throw some plugins in there and get some fantastic coloring in the re-create. In the audio world, he created analog gear that many people yearn for. That's the feature I adore, and it's the only reason I'm debating whether or not to return it. It's just mind-blowingly awesome! br>br>*Price
This is NOT a cheap item. This appears to be the cheapest of UA's interfaces based on what I've seen so far. When you spend that much money on something, you want it to work, even if it takes a while to figure out. I'm open to new ideas. When it freezes, crashes, and dies, however, it becomes a very attractive and expensive paperweight. Should you buy it? br>br>*Is it worth it? 1. br>br>
br>br>br>br>br> If you are not an experienced professional or hobbyist, but are willing to learn a few things (this is NOT for newbies!). 2. br>br>1. br>br>br>br>br>br If you double-check that your system satisfies all of the specifications. Make sure to check out the University of Arizona's website to see what is and is not supported. Before you hand over your hard-earned cash, call customer service and ask questions. 3. br>br>4. br>br>5. br>br>6. This item does not include a USB port. C cable! Make certain you have not only the correct USB-C cable, but also the correct USB-C adapter. However, you must use the correct USB-C cable. C 3. I had to learn the hard way that there is only one port! br>br>Do your research and don't be fooled by shills or gear snobs.

It's a fantastic device, but it's a bit difficult to set up
4/5

For use with a 2019 MacBook Pro, I purchased the Thunderbolt 3 version of this device. The audio is of excellent quality. This box is for you if you want to record vocals and hear compression and reverb while printing the dry vocal. That is something that no other box under $699 can match. However, getting the software to work properly with your DAW and setting it up is a bit of a challenge. You won't have any problems if you're familiar with computers and software; however, if you dislike configuring software, this box will be a challenge. I enjoy tinkering with software, and the box is one of my favorites.

Run away! Because I spent hours trying to get it to work, I have no idea how good this device is
3/5

Since the 1990s, I've had computer experience since 1986, and I've recorded and played a variety of instruments. br>br>USB 3 is not USB 3 to this device, so don't waste your time with DRM issues. To install 3 GB of useless software. The solo was finally recognized, but it stated that my USB ports were insufficient. Sorry, but I don't require a product that claims to be so good but is so difficult to set up. Whether it's Focusrite or something else, I'm sticking with it. There will be no more.

For Windows users (BEWARE), this AI is complete nonsense
3/5

This is the worst AI I've ever bought, and I'm never going to buy another APOLLO product. The AI still does not work after I downloaded the drivers and installed the program on my Windows PC. I know the device detects my microphone because the levels are correct, but neither the mic nor the AI are detected by my Windows PC. This needs a lot of work before it's available for PC users, so unless you're a Mac user who wants to go with the thunderbolt option, I'd avoid this piece of garbage. The money spent was not well spent. Returning to my EVO3 for a moment.

The sound is incredible
5/5

This unit's sound completely astounds me. The pre- The amps are clear and capture everything you plug into them perfectly. At the same time, the "Unison" prefix was introduced. amp plug- When I need the color and warmth of a vintage pre, ins are unbelievably accurate. This is the box to get if you want the best sound quality in your home studio.

DOESN'T WORK WITH WINDOWS YET - MAC ONLY EXISTS DESPITE THEIR PROMISES
3/5

I'd been wanting one for a long time and was thrilled to learn that they are now "Windows Compatible. " This is a false statement. I experimented with three different Windows systems, each with its own set of settings. All of the computers are running Windows 10 and have Thunderbolt 3 ports. This device does not currently work with any of my computers due to a lack of software or drivers. Terrible.
