A rosin cake, that's what it is.
Yes, it comes with a shoulder rest as of 2017, though mine has already broken after less than 6 months of use.
It's been a year and it's still going strong. It's as tough as any violin, which are all quite delicate, but with proper care, it'll last for a long time.
Selected User Reviews For Bunnel Pupil Violin Outfit 1/2 Size Clearance By Kennedy Violins - Carrying Case and Accessories Included - Solid Maple Wood and Ebony Fittings RB300
Let me begin by saying that my wife is a seasoned (10 years) violin teacher who has played the violin for most of her life, and we purchased this violin for our 5-year-old son after being underwhelmed by the $25 per month "economy" violin rental. It was a Romanian rental. The shop "valued" it at $500 when it was made. br>br>This Bunnel violin set is an excellent value, and my wife will most likely recommend it to new students. br>br>The violin itself sounds great for a student violin, and the fit and finish are nearly perfect; it is very pretty, and Kennedy's setup was excellent. The action was just right, the bridge was secure, and the strings were mostly in tune. br>br>The rest of the outfit isn't quite as good as the violin, but it's not bad. The bow is very nice. The case is a bit flimsy, but it should last a long time. The oblong shape makes it easy to store music in the side pocket. It's a good rosin. The shoulder rest is extremely inexpensive, but it should suffice. It's a huge improvement over the foam one my son had on the rental. It was amusing to read the poorly written description of the shoulder rest box. br>br>Overall, the ensemble is impressive, with the violin being the most impressive. br>br>Edit: I took another look at this one and noticed that the shoulder rest has been upgraded.
a warning about the package First and foremost, there's the packaging, which contains a WARNING: br>br>The violin was extremely well packed to ensure its safety during shipment. Item arrived in perfect condition, undamaged. br>br>I purchased this for my daughter's Christmas present in November. Amazon shipped it in its original box, which features GIANT letters spelling out VIOLIN on one side. My daughter picked up the mail, spoiling the surprise of her Christmas present. I'll admit that I cried for hours because it's the only present I have for her, and I was looking forward to her opening it on Christmas morning. If this is a GIFT, make alternate shipping arrangements (perhaps to a relative's house) to keep the surprise intact. br>br>VIOLIN: br>br>I was apprehensive about purchasing this violin because I had no idea what to expect. I have no experience with violins. br>br> It's the first violin I've ever purchased for my daughter. br>br>Previously, she had been using a Mendini provided by the school. It was difficult for her to learn on that violin because it had to be tuned every ten minutes, as many reviews pointed out. Before she could learn, her teacher had to spend a lot of time tuning. br>br>This violin DOES NOT include a shoulder rest. br>br>IF there are any cosmetic flaws, I am unable to locate them. br>br>There is no varnish underneath the violin's neck. This might surprise you if you're a newbie like me. However, the lack of varnish is fairly standard. br>br>The case is stunning. The case is of exceptional quality, especially considering that it is a student violin. Many people would overlook the case quality when purchasing a student violin. br>br>I gave the violin to my daughter's teacher so she could inspect it and make sure it was in good working order. br>br>The only thing he discovered was that the bridge was too high, which I assume affects the sound quality and/or playing ability (I'm not sure). He replaced the old bridge with a new one. He was also kind enough to include the stickers and place an order for a shoulder rest for her. br>br>In his opinion, this is a good violin that is ideal for her. He believes it will last her until she is ready to progress to the next level (as her abilities improve). OVERALL EXPERIENCE: br>br>OVERALL EXPERIENCE: br>br>OVERALL EXPERIENCE: b A, I would STRONGLY RECOMMEND this Violin to your student. Don't be afraid, as I was, that you'll make a mistake if you're a newbie. br>br>I RECEIVED NO SPECIAL DISCOUNT OR FREE PRODUCT IN EXCHANGE FOR THIS REVIEW. Like the rest of you reading this, I paid full price. br>br>If you found this useful, please let us know by clicking the button below. Thanks. 🙂.
This would be my very first violin purchase. It was well-wrapped when it arrived. The case is sturdy and can accommodate two bows, a violin, and other accessories. It did come with a shoulder rest (although some users claimed they did not receive one. ) They must have changed it, because they now send one). br>br>Complaints (which keep me from giving five stars): br>br>The rosin block caused some hairs on my violin bow to break (I wasn't playing too hard), and the plastic box around the rosin can easily catch your bow's hairs, so BE CAREFUL! br>br>The violin has some damage on it; I'm not sure if this is normal, but I'm willing to overlook it because I don't have the time or patience to return it for something that could be normal. It appears that the finish was not properly applied (this isn't a big deal to me, but I'll take a picture of the damage). If you don't push the Pegs into the head, they will slip. (This is normal, but I would think the pegs would be a little longer to stick out of the other side of the head for a more secure fit. ) br>br>Given that this is a student version and not a high-end ricard, I'd expect them to include fret stickers. (I had to buy them; how much does a sticker cost? br>br>Shoulder rest is a bit of a shambles. (Perhaps it was just mine, but the clamps that attach the violin to the pad wouldn't screw into the pad, and I don't have a particularly long neck, so I couldn't use it. ) br>br>Praises: I had to buy a new one (which I did anyway because some people said it didn't come with one)br>br> br>br>The violin is more beautiful in person than it appears in the picture. (In real life, it's a little darker. )br>br>The violin has a nice sound. (I know it's only $200, but this thing makes a lot of noise)br>br>The case is durable (it has a soft shell on the outside, but it's pretty hard on the inside. ) It can withstand a lot of abuse. )br>br>Recommendations: br>br>Replace the rosin (better rosin is required or your bow hair will be stripped. ) )br>br>Replace the bow (The bow that comes with it is fine, but it's a little heavy; I bought a carbon fiber bow just to avoid breaking it and to make it lighter. ) )br>br>Replace the shoulder rest (If you don't want to spend the money on one, you can always use a soft cloth to place on your shoulder and rest the violin on. ) )br>br>Purchase a string set! (Yes, there are two prelude sets: one for violin and one for baggie. ) However, if you are unfamiliar with tuning, you will most likely pop your E string because the violin does not come tuned (at least mine did not). I did not break any strings, but I am used to tuning because I also play the guitar. )br>br>Overall, it's a good buy for the price, but the replacements will set you back around $50 more. Keep your old stuff and use it until it breaks, so you can gain some experience and get fancy with your new bow and other accessories. br>br>I didn't give it three stars because that would be unfair; it does exactly what it claims to do. The issues I'm having are minor and can be resolved or avoided. Who am I to pass judgment because I'm new to the violin? Added two images. br>br> 1 depicting the damage (on the side of the violin) and 1 depicting the violin's color (facing the front of the violin).
