The bar, which is separate from the resonator chamber, will play if held in your hand. They will also play if they are placed on a surface because they have small feet to stand on.
On the piano, C is middle C, and C1 is an octave higher.
Nearly four years ago, I purchased my two sets. They're made of plastic (and they're very well made). With metal bars, it's not cheap at all. They've lasted a long time and sound fantastic. I use them with people of all ages, and even the adults who work with them compliment them on how nice they are.

The instruments were described as being made of wood, which was completely inaccurate. Nothing about the product is made of wood, including the mallet handles, which are made of plastic. I wasn't expecting anything like this.

We purchased this for our autistic daughter who uses music to express herself. The items were sturdy and well constructed. Amazon provided excellent shipping and packaging, and the seller provided an overall positive experience.
These bars have a wonderful tone to them. Set is lovely. These bars have an incredible tone and are extremely well made. The sound is rich and deep when it is played. They're not tinny at all, and they'll look great in any concert hall. They're also packaged in a sturdy storage case. I am overjoyed.
These bells are fantastic! When it arrived, it was in excellent condition and had a beautiful tone. The carry case is convenient, though it does soften over time. For each of the bells, there are enough mallets.
Very good quality! This is something that the baby will appreciate as he or she grows older. I'm also going to mention the colors and have him practice counting with them.

The bell has a nice stand so you can put it on a table, but it also sounds great when held in your hand. They are packaged in a sturdy, protective case. I would strongly suggest it.
