Questions & Answers

Can you tell me more about French cut reed?

This is defined as a straight line cut into a reed that is the width of the reed and located at the end of the sloping cut. Reeds of higher quality display it clearly and it appears on nearly all of them.

Do you think this would work better in classical music ?

The V16 is a reed with a huge amount of versatility. In addition to playing it in classical and baroque bands, I've played it in marching bands as well. I've used them in all sorts of forms, and they've always exceeded Anyone would be well served by these From beginners to some of the best musicians in the world.

The Reeds of Great Plains
5/5

The original Vandoren Jazz Mix set that I used for testing included the Java Green, Red, and ZZ reeds. It seems that the JJ Mix first attracted attention because of its Java Reds, but I ended up liking the Java Greens and these V16s better. I currently On the Vandoren scale, they are only slightly thicker at the base and rank about a "#2 3/4". Playing everything from show tunes to marches to jazz, they work equally well for me. These reeds fitted inside a Meyer 6 or Vandoren A6 mouthpiece are used on Yamaha 62 alto instruments and Selmer Mark VI clarinets. The reason I do not play "tongue depressor" reeds anymore is because I am another older player. Using the 2 1/2 V16 reeds, I can reach every note I need to play when it's time to play one. For about 90% of my work, I use the Dell V16s. I may use a #3 Java Green if I feel good about it, but the V16s are great for me!.

They are built to a high standard and work well

He has played alto for a couple of years, so I picked these up for him. Due to cheap reeds and some problems with higher notes, he has been using cheap reeds. After using them, his teacher recommended them to him and he has never The price was well worth it.

It's a pleasure to have the V16 line
5/5

I love This pair of jazzy pearls has just enough thickness at the tip to make them sound even more jazzy. The Mendini instruments I play make them sound even better (I play them on very cheap instruments). It was a little surprising that I did not find any bad reeds.

These reeds are excellent for beginner players as they provide the most ideal sound
5/5

Reeds of this quality are excellent. This brand has been recommended to both of my young daughters, and it is vital that you introduce your children to reeds of the highest quality to offer them the best shot at The cost is high, but the confidence they build is truly incredible. We have convinced the band director to recommend these to all his students and that our kids will not use any other brand for the time being.

I want you to take a reed! Since I have been playing jazz alto for over 30 years, my experience is extensive and diverse
5/5

Several brands and strengths of reeds have been tried, and this V16/#2 has proven to be the most reliable. There is no doubt that number 5 is the most manageable. Many of my peers used to brag about playing #4 reeds when I was young, and I was no different. In later years, you realize that playing great music does not require the playing of steel lips (or reeds as thick as surfboards). decided to go with 2 instead. are well-playing, with good tone, and the quality is very consistent from reed to reed - these are nice reeds to play on. Normally, if I have to shave them down, I just do it. It is the preferred reed of the seasoned player who is confident enough to not feel the.

The reed I am recommending is excellent
5/5

In order for a reed, mouthpiece, ligature and instrument to work effectively together, each must adapt to the other. A few times a year, I get the right combination, and that's Al3 and ligature, V16 2. Optimum AL3 for optimale alliances. I have a 57 Kohlert Alto along with my 5 reed. It works well as a concert band sound, but can be used in a big band, as well. After a little break in, the reeds still work fine in this box that seems a bit "green".

It is jazzy and bright
5/5

The bright sound this reed makes on his jazz mouthpiece is something my high school son enjoys playing on both of his saxophones. Describe his level of play as intermediate.
