These are incredible reeds. They have a great sound and are very consistent. However, you will need to break them in, which is a simple process. Every day, soak the entire reed for a minute or two in water before putting it in your case. Then, later, take it out and play on each reed for about 5 minutes at most, and usually in around 4-minute increments. These reeds are going to be incredible in five days. Some of the reeds in the box are garbage, but this is true of every box. Rico reeds are superior to garbage reeds in terms of performance. 😂.
I use an old, cheap mouthpiece, and the Vandorens didn't work right out of the box for me. To get them halfway decent, I had to sand a lot. I changed to a resin reed from the Leger Signature Series. It has its quirks, but it outperforms cane reeds in terms of durability and lasts almost indefinitely. I've yet to come across a cane reed that consistently performs right out of the box.
I got three out of five reeds, and three of them were cracked. My daughter didn't tell me about it until I couldn't return them. The next time, I'll visit a music store.
I got these, and I was able to play again right away. They have an excellent cut and perform admirably.
Quality is always a given.
I've been using this product for quite some time and am very pleased with it. Overall, this is an excellent product that I would purchase again.
I've been playing saxophone for about seven years and these reeds are fantastic! The sound quality is 100 times better than any other brand of reeds, including reedco! But I wouldn't recommend them to a beginner because it's difficult to get a sound out of them at first; however, if you've been playing for a while, you'll be fine! THESE REEDS ARE AMAZING!.
Granddaughter is a tenor saxophonist who performs both traditional and jazz music. Vandoren reeds, both types, are a favorite. I've only played alto sax for about 10 minutes, so I can't comment on their quality, but she bought them on the advice of her sax teacher and has never complained. We've used both types of boxes.
