Selected User Reviews For Rico Select Jazz Tenor Sax Reeds, Unfiled, Strength 2 Strength Medium, 5-pack
The reeds had all been cut off. I gave Rico (D'Addario) two stars for poor quality control because the center and were unplayable. However, I'd been looking for a reed that could bridge the gap between a Vandoren V16 and a Java Green, so I decided to give the Jazz Selects another chance. br>br>The new box contains a set of Number 3 Medium French-style toilet paper rolls. I was pleased to see that all five reeds had been properly cut during the filing process. As a result, I began to play them. The first reed performed admirably right out of the box, so I tried a different one - I eventually tried every reed in the package, and three of the five reeds worked perfectly right out of the box. The other two took only a few sessions to break in, and it appears that I now have a box of five reeds that are all good! br>br>I'm not sure how long these will last, but they make a great first impression. As a result of this second box, I'm willing to raise my vote. Aside from the QC issues, these reeds are excellent players.
After a ten-year hiatus, I've resumed playing the saxophone. D'Addario bought Rico reeds during that time, and boy, what a difference! br>br>In the old days, only two or three Rico Royals in a box of ten would play well. With the Jazz Select box, I can play on ANY reed with ease! br>br>The cuts are precise, the tables are level, and the tips do not easily warp. I'm very happy with these, and I'll order more when I run out!.
I can get the same results with half-price reeds.
I had hoped that playing the reeds would make them feel and sound better.
They're fantastic, but they don't last very long.
Inconsistent and in desperate need of some tender loving care. I'm not fond of it. No bueno!.
In my 20 years of playing, this brand of reed has the fewest bad reeds per box of any I've tried. There are still a lot of bad ones out there, but this is my label.
