Questions & Answers

What time does the tip open?

I'm not sure, but it's probably somewhere between 85 and 90 years old. In a comparison of six or seven of the most popular soprano mouthpieces, this was one of the easiest to play. It's hard to beat the price.

At the very least, as a tryout, this should be useful
4/5

Alternatively, you could make a paperweight out of it. Soprano 7 gold was mine. I've played it on an Antigua student horn and a Lazzaro bargain basement horn a few times now. br> For me, on those two horns, to get in tune with A 440 on a chromatic tuner, I have to push this mouthpiece on as far as it will go before a ridge in the chamber prevents it from going any further, and this is with a fairly firm embouchure. And that's with a strength of two. 0 Rico broken in reed on a regular basis. Because I'm a home hobbyist, I expect results to vary slightly depending on embouchure and reed strength. If I had to tune a little higher than 440, I'd do so. I'm not sure where that could take place - This mouthpiece would not work for me (I've noticed since I first posted this review that a ridge is also in the chamber on the Van Doren and the Selmer Cstar, so it appears that is a normal design, and on the same 2 horns, Lazarro and Antigua, it's the same issue, no room to adjust above A 440 if needed for me with my current embouchure and reed choice. )br>br> Otherwise, as far I'd describe the sound as being bright and focused. Only a numeral 7 is engraved on the shank, which is the only marking I can find. This 7 is definitely more open than the Cstar, and it reminds me of the Van Doren s25. Although the inside of the mouthpiece has a rough surface finish, it appears to be well-made to my untrained eye. I've used a variety of sax mouthpieces over the years, and the ligature fits perfectly. I photographed my Dukoff and Otto Link tenors, as well as my Van Doren soprano, both of which are from the student Antigua. The Yibuy has a straight neck, while the Selmer Cstar has a curved neck. For the record, I used to be a member of a jazz band at a community college. I still intend to purchase a traditional name brand metal soprano mouthpiece down the road; I understand the appeal of saving money by simply trying out name brand mouthpieces at a local music store, but I also like the idea of having this at home for a few months or however long I need to compare the sound to a hard rubber mouthpiece before purchasing a name brand; after that, it'll just be a paperweight. For the time being, this will suffice to give me an idea of how a metal mouthpiece sounds on soprano, and for less than $35 delivered, I'll take it.

For a low price, you get a lot of mouthpiece
4/5

Using a Vandoren V16 2 to blow. 5 reed. Great sound—not as edgy as Amazon's other low-cost option, the Rico M7—but excellent nonetheless. Soprano mouthpiece with a reasonable price tag. No snake- The upper notes have a charmer quality to them. I don't believe a better mouthpiece can be found for less than $100. br> The ligature is fine, but a Rovner-style ligature would be better. It has a mellower tone thanks to the style ligature. The Rovner 1RVS is an excessively large device. So, for a third of the price, get an Andoer and resize it as follows: Pull the leather loops apart slowly and steadily, then trim 1/4" off each end; Refold and reposition the pieces.

The sound is very bright
5/5

For the price, it's an excellent mouthpiece. The sound is extremely bright and loud. I couldn't play high D and higher notes with my stock mouthpiece for some reason, but I can now with this mouthpiece. Without any restrictions, it's simple to blow through. I'll just order a better one later if the ligature isn't good enough.

The sound quality is excellent
5/5

Wow, what a deal! The open chamber gives off a good impression. The voice has a round, mellow tone to it. As you may be aware, the intonation of a soprano is unbalanced. Well, the intonation is easier to balance with this mouthpiece. And the ombeture adjusts to this mouthpiece on its own. Without pinching, I can hit all of the high and low notes evenly. Obtain a Rovner ligature to fit, however. It has a significant impact.

This isn't a mouthpiece for jazz
3/5

It's well-made, but it's not exactly what I'm looking for. br>I was asking too much for such a low price on what I needed. br>It's still a step up from the flimsy plastic mouthpiece that came with my saxophone. br>I wish I had a few thousand dollars to buy a nice soprano saxophone.

This isn't ideal
3/5

The tone is poor because the door is closed too tightly. Because I missed the return deadline, I'm stuck with a subpar mouthpiece.

I wasn't able to get it to work! With this mouthpiece, I was unable to play. For me, this is a poor quality.

For the price, this is an excellent mouthpiece
5/5

For the money, this is a fantastic mouthpiece. I'm not a great saxophonist, but this mouthpiece improved my sound significantly over the cheap plastic mouthpiece that came with my soprano sax. The sound has a strong tone and is bright.
