The reason that I gave it an OK rating is because after having played both for a while, I would definitely choose the Yamaha piece that came with it. It hasn't been said that the Vandoren is a bad mouthpiece, but that the Yamaha is a better volume, consistency, and feel mouthpiece. As a result, the difference in cost and benefit was not worth the upgrade for me. There are no rules when it comes to mouthpieces, and another player might think it's a great choice.
