When I first opened the package containing these pads, I was struck by the strong chemical odor that emanated from them. At first, I assumed I'd be able to use them - My tongue wouldn't be touching the pads because the smell had worn off, but I found it to be extremely unpleasant and toxic. It appeared as if I wouldn't be able to put them to good use. I thought these were a good deal compared to the Vandoren pads I usually use, but whatever manufacturing process they used, I don't think they were meant to be used near a person's mouth or nose. They'll end up in the trash.
There's a reason these mouthpiece cushions are so much less expensive than some of the more well-known name-brand alternatives. They apply easily and are thick enough, but They don't come off when it's time to remove them. When you remove the film from the mouthpiece, the foam separates from the adhesive-coated film, and the adhesive sticks to the mouthpiece. The adhesive must be removed with alcohol and rubbing. br>br>I go through cushions fairly quickly, I know I shouldn't, but I do. I thought I'd found a good, low-cost solution, but after using the second one, I threw the rest away. Free would be an exorbitant price to pay.
PLEASE DO NOT USE THIS PRODUCT IF YOU NEED A MOUTHPLATE COVER FOR YOUR WOODWINDS INSTRUMENT. Despite the fact that it may appear to be a good deal, these will completely destroy your mouthpiece. Your mouthpiece WILL be adhered to by the adhesive. Just to get the adhesive off, I had to soak it overnight. Not to mention that the adhesive will cause everything to stick to it, even when it's not on the mouthpiece, making it more difficult to clean. Not to mention that these emit a foul chemical odor.
These are good, they're a good size for saxophone mouthpieces (borderline too large for Clarinet, but they work), they stick really well, and they come off cleanly if you need to re-use them. They're a quarter of the price of other versions on the market, so you can set them or change them whenever you want. To me, it appears to be a no-brainer.
You get what you pay for, as another user put it. The backing paper comes off with the pad half the time, so thin glue is useless. I'm just curious as to why half of what they sell (on Amazon) is of such poor quality.
For everything you get, the price is significantly lower. All of my junior woodwinds were able to be outfitted in three different grades. We simply grab another one and get back to work if it comes off.
This product does exactly what it says on the tin!.
