The differences are described in great detail in the description. I chose the "S" because I wanted to sound like Earl Bostic. The "M" would be appropriate for a David Sanborn sound in the middle of the road. Please be aware- The mouthpiece makes a lot of noise! You'll be able to blow past anyone in the place! I hope this has been of assistance.

Selected User Reviews For BEECHLER Alto Saxophone Mouthpiece (B115)
***Note: The Beechler Diamond Inlay Mouthpieces (Letter Number) listings online (on amazon and most other major online retailers) are not fully descriptive of the mouthpiece (Letter Number Letter). br>br>I'm a serious jazz saxophonist (having played in jazz bands and combos for over a decade), and alto sax is my primary instrument. I ordered this mouthpiece because I was tired of my current sound and wanted something more vibrant and edgy. After searching online and failing to find any listings for these mouthpieces with two letters and a number, I decided to order the S6 in the hopes that it would be the same mouthpiece model. I was mistaken because the mouthpiece said "S6S" when I received it in the mail. If I'm not mistaken, the first letter (small/medium/large) refers to the facing length, which isn't indicated online. br>br>Anyway, I've been playing this mouthpiece (S6S) for three weeks and I'm really enjoying it! The sound is extremely bright, but it is also warm and completely controllable. In fact, I've never played a more dynamic jazz mouthpiece. I'm at ease down to a whisper, and I can scream like I've never screamed on an alto before. The tone is thick and full-bodied. In the higher registers, the voice becomes more full-bodied and alive. It's simple to play altissimo, and the low notes are also enjoyable. It's also a good idea to tune things up. Overall, I would strongly recommend this mouthpiece; however, before ordering, call the supplier to confirm which model you will be receiving. Because this mouthpiece does not come with a ligature, I'm using a basic rovner ligature that I already own and it works perfectly. Vandoren ZZ 2 is what I'm using. 5 reeds.
This is a fantastic mouthpiece. I took a chance after hearing about it from a friend, and I'm so glad I did. It allows me to maintain a consistent airflow while also allowing me to roar loudly on my saxophone. I would strongly advise!.
The sound I'm after is produced by the Beechler Diamond Inlay mouthpiece. Bright high-end overtones cut through the worship band, resulting in great-sounding lead solos.
This mouthpiece is not usable. For my abilities, the tip was far too open. I had to give it back to them.
S6. Great Mouthpiece Model S6, it gives me a great tone and allows me to easily rich the low and high notes. The noise level is high, but it is manageable.
Outstanding mouthpiece.
The Beecher has changed, and not in a good way, in my opinion.
