Questions & Answers

Is it possible to purchase just the d and a strings separately? Please let me know how much they'd cost. ?

I believe these are only available as a set; you may have to look on Amazon or elsewhere for individual strings.

Is it possible to remove the ball?

Although it is not included in this set, Obligatos are also available without the ball. I've been using these strings for over 20 years and they are the best!

What does an electric violin make of these strings? My Yamaha is one of my favorite musical instruments. ?

Using acoustic high-quality strings on an electric violin is a waste of money. They'll feel great in your left hand, but they won't sound as good as electric violin strings.

Is it true that all of these balls have come to an end?

Yes, each of the four strings has a ball end.

Violin strings that are required to be played
5/5

In the middle of the year, I made an online purchase of a new violin. I thought I'd give it a try to see how it compared to the student violin I'd been using and had outgrown. The new violin is lovely, but the strings are cheap and sound awful. I purchased and installed these Obligato strings. What a stark contrast! The sound is fantastic, and it helps with bow playability. These strings come highly recommended by me. It is unquestionably worth the money, and I am purchasing a second set as a backup.

I'm not happy with the sound quality
3/5

I'm really disappointed with these. I'm not sure if I just got a bad set or what, but the sound was great for the first couple of days and then it started to go downhill. They've proven to be extremely unstable in my experience. I may have to pause in the middle of a song to retune, despite the fact that I've been using them for a few weeks. On my violin, I don't hear any of the "warm and vibrant" tone that everyone praises. My modern violin is quite bright, so I've been looking for a string that will help me tone it down. The D and G strings are especially scratchy and squeak when changing strings quickly. The A and E have a better sound, but they aren't as warm as my Evah Pirazzis. The only positive aspect I can point to is the resonance they produce when playing an open string. The sound lingers for a few seconds after the bow is lifted, and I must say, the gold E is quite nice--no squeaking. However, if you place your finger on the D or G string, the sound changes to a raspy tone. I took a chance, but they're not the right fit for my violin.

It wasn't as "dark" as I had anticipated
4/5

To begin, I'd like to state that I chose Obligatos because I'd heard that they have a "dark" sound. Now, this is an ambiguous term, and it could have an unintended meaning for me, but I was looking for a gritty, deep, almost viola-like sound. They broke in and got their "true" sound after about a week and a half. They have a good sound quality and are warm, but they lack the "dark" quality I was looking for. I had been using Evah Pirazzis and almost believe they provided the quality I was looking for, but I decided to try a new model anyway. br>br>While they sound great, don't expect too much if you're looking for that dark, gut string sound like I was. I believe I will use a true gut core next time. br>br>I'm not going to buy these again, but I'm going to enjoy them while I have them.

The audio quality has greatly improved
5/5

I was hesitant to purchase these at first, but other musicians' friends persuaded me to do so, and I must say, I've never heard my violin sound so vibrant, beautiful, deep, and incredibly strong. It has completely changed my opinion, and I now recommend the OBLIGATO string set to everyone.

This is fantastic! In terms of sound, I was hoping for a warmer, darker tone, and while the tone has improved and I now prefer it, I still didn't get the warm tone I desired
5/5

But it's the way my bow glides across these strings that has piqued my interest the most. As if it were gliding on butter, it was silky smooth. In contrast to my previous strings, which I later realized were holding me back and that I was completely unaware of.

The gold "E" string is a abomination! I didn't realize I'd be getting a gold "E" string until I read the product description
3/5

A gold ball "E" string was mentioned in the description. The sound of the gold "E" string is dreadful. I sent the company an email, but they have yet to respond. I like the obligato strings in general, but the gold E string must be removed.

In my violin, it produces a beautiful, rich, and warm sound
5/5

In my violin, it produces a beautiful, rich, and warm sound. Until I tried Obligato, I thought my violin had an overly bright sound. I used Pirastro Obligato rosin, which has a lot of grip. This string set, as mentioned by other reviewers, takes some getting used to, but it takes more pressure when played close to the bridge and the sound does not crack. It took about a week to break the string because it was not a quick response string. in addition to being stable.
