And I'm still a complete noob. As a result, I'm unable to comment on the tone or feel of the music. To me, it appears to be satisfactory. br>BUT I'm ecstatic because I got an A-. When the string that came with my cello broke while I was tuning it for the first time, I ordered a Prelude A-string to replace it. It also broke right when I was tuning it up for the first time. There were no burrs or anything on the nut or bridge, so I believe it was just the cheaper strings. But, as I previously stated, I am not a professional or even close to being one. But I was able to tune it up and play it with my new cello! So I'm giving it five stars just for that. I didn't want to spend too much money on a string because I'm still new. If I need a cheap replacement string, I won't hesitate to try this method again.
I'm a new player, so I figured I'd be able to get away with buying a cheap string and not notice much of a difference in tone. Unfortunately, this string is devoid of texture, and the tone has a slipping quality to it. Bowing a fully resonating note is extremely difficult. The good news is that it was relatively inexpensive, which I had anticipated. The other piece of news is that I'm going to buy another string. This one will serve as a good place holder until the new string arrives, ensuring that I am bowing the G string correctly and not hitting both notes.
"Generic 1st A Single Cello Strings Carbon Steel Core Nickel Alloy Wound 4/4," according to the product description, but what arrived was a thin solid steel string, not a wound string. We attempted to request a replacement, assuming there had been a shipping error, but the replacement was identical to the original. We attempted to return the product, but there is no return option on the replacement item. This seller should be barred from selling on Amazon. (If Amazon allows "zero" ratings, the rating should be "zero. ").
As a temporary string, this works well. It's a little on the thin side, but it gets the job done and is reasonably priced. It's not designed for long-term play, but it does last quite a while.
It wasn't a cello string, to be sure.
The sound produced by this string is extremely bright.
As I learn to play the cello, I have become a master at breaking strings. Fortunately, these strings are inexpensive and will not break the bank.
