For the past year, my daughter has been using a sponge shoulder rest and has recently progressed to a 1/4 size violin. br>I was hoping to find a shoulder rest that would fit 1/4 and 1/2 sizes so she could use it for a few years, but I couldn't find anything suitable. So I ended up purchasing this one because I already own a full size (4/4) collapsible one from Kun that I am quite pleased with. br>br>This one has the same design as the full-size version. The height of the shoulder rest can be adjusted by turning the two plastic screws in and out of the base. It turns out that even at its maximum height (achieved by unscrewing the two screws as far as possible before they fall off the base), it is insufficient for my daughter, whose neck is average or slightly longer than average when compared to other students in her class. Many children who try to use this with a 1/4 violin, I believe, will have a similar issue. We eventually wrapped a piece of cloth around the foam and continued to use it. The real issue is that in order to use it at its maximum height, you must turn two metal screws into a plastic base in the shortest amount of time. The threads (out of the plastic base) are subjected to a great deal of stress in this condition, and they will quickly wear out. As a result, the long-term viability of the product is in doubt. The full-size one I use, on the other hand, has extremely long screws. As a result, at least one-third of the screws are seated in the base, reducing thread wear. Because the plastic pieces where the screws sit are much smaller than those in the full-size model, I'm guessing Kun won't be able to use very long screws for this miniature model. When designing a shoulder rest to fit a variety of violin sizes and children with different neck lengths, this is the design's fundamental limit. br>br>The bottom line is that if you're buying it for a 1/16 to 1/8 size violin, it should be fine. br>If you're buying it for a 1/4 size violin and your child has an average or long neck, you might want to consider the original Kun, which is not collapsible but designed to fit 1/8 to 1/4 size violins. br>I'm not sure it'll last if you buy it and use it for a few years.
My 4-year-old daughter has been playing the violin for a little more than a year. We got it because the sponge was preventing her from properly holding her head (resulting in a slight bend in her neck). This shoulder rest has been extremely useful in assisting her in properly holding her violin and maintaining a healthy neck. I like that it will grow with her as she progresses in violin size and that it is adjustable, allowing her to keep her neck in a proper position as her body grows. I think the price is reasonable (despite the fact that I didn't do a lot of price comparisons). It's a nice blue color. Although she would have preferred a more pastel color, there was a price difference, and this blue is still appropriate for both boys and girls.
It worked well for my son until we replaced the chinrest, after which we had to switch shoulder rests. The folding version is my favorite because it fits into the case pocket much more easily. When flipping the "feet" into the unfolded position, just be careful not to pinch fingers.
The color is a favorite of my daughter's. It's a good fit for my daughter's violin. The color is appealing to her. The chin rest area is just a thin layer of foam, similar to what you'd find on the back of a bathmat. It does the job, but it doesn't feel like a high-quality, long-lasting product. We'll have to wait and see if it holds up to regular use in the years to come.
Although the padding isn't as thick as Wolf's, it can be stored in the outside pocket of the violin case because it's collapsible. br>I haven't heard any complaints from my little one, and it's simple to put on and take off, and it doesn't scratch the back of the violin.
My five-year-old son adores it.
This was purchased for my son's 1/4 violin and it worked perfectly. It appears to be of decent quality and was easily installed.
This was purchased for one of my students and has served them well on both their 1/8 and 1/4 size violins thus far. Durable and adjustable for violins of all shapes and sizes, as well as students.
